I have a 1994 Jaguar XJS two door coupe. I am looking to install and purchase a CD player for my car. The manual says this is an option for my car. I'm assuming the original owner of this car did not choose that option. Would it be correct to think that there is a connection in the trunk ready for a hook-up. If so where would I look for it. Would it have to be a player that has come from that model year or would another CD player work? thanks, Ken
The CD players were mounted in the left hand side of the boot. There was also a change from Clarion to Alpine in April 1994. I'm guessing you're in the US so when you say 1994 I think you probably mean a VIN lower than 194774. In which case, it'll be a Clarion head unit. You may find the wiring tucked behind the trim panel in the boot.
Mine is a '91 which has the alpine unit fitted in the boot, I know because l fitted it. lol. I swopped that one out for a later Alpine unit that will play read and write disks. Check out the plug in the trunk l think it should be a round din type. DAC10513 - JAG Autochanger mounting bracket | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts This will hold the CD player and the tool box.
I have 94 coupe also. I got a strong FM transmitter and play music via Bluetooth. Last week I opened up the exhaust a bit, and the soundtrack is better than any playlist
Ken, "Needing more music", huh... But a CD changer has only 5 more CD’s worth of music…
Maybe you’re better off going with a system with which you never have to be changing something because your entire music collection is already in there, unless you’re adding new music to it. That would be what a USB memory stick can provide for you, which has an unbelievable music storage capacity compared to the humble CD changer. A 32GB USB stick will hold over 500 CD’s for you (and that’s CD’s, not songs…) and they have also become so cheap anymore, like less than $10 for up to a 32GB capacity stick. On my XJS, I have a USB stick with 256GB worth of stored music (I don’t even remember how many CD’s is that) and a micro sanDisk with 256GB worth of video (about 170 movies with a 4.2” HD display). As an alternative I have my entire music library in my smart phone and I can play it on my XJS via the Android head unit’s Bluetooth capability. There are plenty of available inexpensive devices (i.e. FM adapters) that allow you to play a music loaded USB stick using the XJS original head unit, plus small enough to hardly get noticed. I installed one of those in my wife’s Z3 and there’s a good variety of them out there. You can always install a far better head unit…
