I love their adventures.
They have so often managed to show that cars can do interesting things. More importantly, their deliberate idiot's-eye perspective shows locations in the kind of vivid, realistic detail that even the best documentaries struggle to reach.
If you want to see pretty pictures of foreign lands, watch National Geographic.
If you want to see what it's like to actually BE there, watch Top Gear.
I do love the challenges, though. In some places, cars are used in very harsh terrain every day. It's not unusual to see a normally tame vehicle lumbering along washed out unmaintained roads.
Since I've owned the XJS, I've been incredibly impressed with it's ability to shrug off hardship. It's one of the best cars I've driven off pavement. More impressive than the performance is it's can-do attitude. It seems no matter what goes wrong, the car just keeps going...
I'll bet his XJS could have taken that hill stock, right off the showroom floor. It was cool to see it on large tires, though.
