new owner 96 XJ6 with rattle noise up front
So, I just bought my first Jag with 96K on it and no matter the speed I drive nor the surface of the road it rattles up front awful. I feel the vibration down by my feet. it's like when you are freezing cold and your teeth chatter the car is chattering, like metal on metal. Could it be the shocks or some other front end part of the body? It's really bad and I need to fix it this weekend, so any ideas would really be appreciated. Other than that the car is spectacular in every way. thank you.

Many possibilities. Here are some common faults:
1) Shock absorber upper bushing have crumbled away. Very common. Easy fix. OK to use generic replacements
2) Anti-roll bar end links loose and/or busings shot.
3) Diagonal braces in engine not tight. They need to be *really tight*
4) Lower shock bolts not tight tight. They need to be *really tight*
#1 and #2 generally make a rattle/clatter noise. #3 and #4 generally make a rattle/knocking noise.
Cheers
