Default Next up... interior. Need suggestions and experiences!

OK... about $6500 into bringing back an '88 XJ-SC cabriolet back to life & a paint job. Got it running well now, and the shop should be finishing up working on the a/c any day now. Next up, working on the interior. Never imagined the interior would be the most expensive investment, but redoing the leather seats alone I'm getting quotes between $1k and $2k, but it needs everything replaced, including carpet.

So far, I've only found the following vendors that can do the early XJS interiors: BAS Jag Trim, GAHH, and Leatherseats.com. Anyone else had any experiences finding a vendor with the patterns for style 1 seats for an '88 or older XJS they'd like to recommend?

Hi Doug! Yeah, people keep mentioning Paul's but when I pull up their website, it doesn't look maintained. Most of the buttons on their website brings up a blank screen. If they provide interior materials, you can't tell it from their website. Even their "about us" brings up a blank page. Wondering if they are still in business.

LOL Doug, what an idea!

Hey Tiki, how about some pictures of this car. I/we always love to see restorations and hear about people passionate enough to make the effort.

Hope you find a reasonable solution.

I'm more of a 21st century "like to see some examples" type of shopper, although if I get in a pinch, I may try this old method.

leatherseats.com had some great prices and a Toyota forum came up on my feedback search raving about them, while a Subaru forum had mixed reviews. Most complaints was that the seats were not 100% leather, but even most OEM leather seats are truly leather only on the "touchy surfaces". It's not uncommon for the sides and back to be matching vinyl.

My reluctance with them is that their website doesn't prompt me to identify seat style #1 or #2 and the '88s were a transition year model with some of #1 and some of #2. Maybe I'll just identify it as an '87 since mine are the #1 style phased out mid-year.

I used leatherique products. The dye and oil is great. I found the pristine clean to be no more effective than simple green. thought the PC is probably safer to use in the long run. it just was not powerful enough even with a brush to get the dirt out of the leather grain.

Somehow I doubt their products will repair the rips and tears. I'm looking for replacement leather and vinyl products. Thanks anyway, but leatherique is not an option for my interior issues.

Default Paul's

They seem to have a number of products on Ebay at the moment. And someone asked a question and they responded with a request that the person call them.

just a suggestion, but have you looked around for an interior out of a wrecked/rusted car? There are some good deals out there if you look and with just about every color/combination you can imagine.

I wonder what 'space age' insulation materials you might decide to use under the new carpets. Have you investigated that yet?

I found a guy out here around DC to replace the piping on my seats and he had an exact match of the leather. (I got his name through a local Jag Dealer)

He told me he'd be able to redo the leather seats in my car completely. (Using the old leather as the template) You may want to start by calling up your local Jag Dealer and ask them who they use for leather repairs.
