A nifty little gadget
I've been looking to replace my factory stereo HU with a new more up to date unit. My main goal was to be able to connect my phone and/or iPod for music and handsfree calling.
I looked at a number of nice units from Alpine, Pioneer and Kenwood and although they could all change the illumination colour to match the rest of my dash, to me they all looked wrong and I guess I just didn't want to stray from stock as my car is all original.
On a recommendation from a friend I bought a GoGroove Flexsmart X3 Bluetooth FM transmitter and I have to say I really like it.
The unit works like most other FM transmitters but this unit seems to have a much more powerful signal. I get virtually no interference sound and the music quality is very good, almost CD like in fact.
It instantly connected to my iphone 4 via bluetooth and streams music and also integrates handsfree phone calling. (there is a mic built into the unit). Call quality is quite good with the hood up and ok with the hood down at up to about 50 mph if I put up the side windows. The call comes in through the car's speakers. The unit also has a USB port for connecting other devices or charging the phone.
Not a bad little unit for $60 off Amazon with free shipping and it allows me to keep my car looking original.
Here are a few pics.
Cheers,
Allan
Simple installation
Does not get in the way of gearshift
A better view of the goose neck
Very Simple to use
Out for a nice weekend drive!!

Looks good. On your car it's probably best not to mess with it due to it's originality and history.
To be honest, in a convertible, even with the top up, it's not a great acoustic environment, so I don't think doing the FM transmitter would give you much worse sound than a direct source.
