What seems strange to me is the OK running once actually started; so I think i would change the ECU's engine temperature sender on the B bank thermostat housing first; it might not be telling the ECU that the engine is stone cold and so the ECU is not enriching the mixture.
If this makes no difference I agree with Doug, this sounds like a duff new FPR; but:
Do you give it two pump priming goes on the ignition before trying the start it? Does it start if you floor the throttle while cranking? If all this is yes, then:
When you changed the pump did you clean out the sump tank and change the filter?
Did you blow out the supply line?
They never let you get complacent, do they!

I checked all the vacuum and connectors under the r.h.inlet followed the wire to the throttle pedistal disconnected the plug and checked the wiring and reconnected it, cleaned the temp switch connections eac3762.... I tried it again and it started. Bloody messing with my mind now. I try it again tomorrow 😋🤪🤪🤑

I think, therefore, duff new regulator, partially blocked filter, failing pump, or partially blocked gravity fuel feed from main tank to pump.
Personally, I heartily dislike the OEM style Bosch canister filters, ever since I had a duff brand new one on a Range Rover, that took me forever to diagnose as the cause of a high speed misfire.
These, with the 8mm barb adaptors i love:
