Safest, wisest, most socially responsible answer: yes, disconnect the battery before replacing *any* electrical components

Real world answer: no, no need to disconnect the battery just to replace a relay. I never do. However, it couldn't hurt to have the key "off" in this case.

Cheers

Installed new relay today and happy to report you guys got it right! Wipers work, air conditioning working, horn working! Radio still not working, checked all fuses under drivers side dash and all check good. Any ideas on getting the radio going again? Thanks guys for your help, best $7.00 spent in a long time!

I did not disconnect battery but had ignition switched off! Hope the relay sorts everything out, best wishes from chilly frozen England.

Sorry, my internet slow updating thread. Pleased all working ok apart from radio. Is there an inline fuse close to the back of the radio? This had gone in mine.
