Default No start '95 XJS coupe

Hi guys I recently picked up a 1995 XJS coupe which i'm pretty excited about. However it won't start I get power when turning the key and hear a click under the hood not the starter click and that's all no crank or anything else. Prior to this issue I could tell it seemed like it would crank up slow. I'm wondering if anyone could guide me where to look first as i'm not familiar with this car yet, thanks.

Have a look here... http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jvs1995en.pdf

See figure 3 or page 18. This covers the starter curcuit. It's 1 of 4 things...

1. Ignition switch
2. Neutral safety switch
3.Starter relay
4. Security system module.

Hi Oysterclass83

The first thing would be to try another Battery and then go from there, as it could also be something like a faulty earth wire

If your battery is fully charged and everything is operating as intended, the two most common reasons a AJ16 car won’t start are

-Failed CPS
-Car was turned on a immediately turned of (like to move in the driveway) This floods the car out .

Any reason to think that the starter is just dead?

Anyone tried banging on the starter while someone turns the key? That usually frees it up, at least temporarily. Enough to know that it's the starter that's gone bad.

Mine was the rotary/ neutral switch. It had a burnt trace on the circuit board, so it never knew it was in park or neutral.

I swapped the starter relay for basic troubleshooting and it
cranks now but still won’t start. I can hear the fuel pump power
up so that shouldn’t be a issue.

Good call. I have a British racing green 95 convertible and my other cars are BRG as well. Tint looks horrible on that color

The BRG is beautiful I agree the tint just looks too dark makes the car look suspicious 😆
