Default Is this normal?

I have started stripping the rear suspension and if I put my hand on the output shaft on the diff there is a small amount of movement. Hardly anything but I wondered if this is normal or should there be none at All? I’ve done a bit of digging but can’t seem to find an answer. Many thanks.

Which way is the movement? Rotation, side to side or in and out? There should be a small amount of rotational movement, that is the backlash in the teeth of the ring and pinion gears.
