oil leaks
Just picked up a 1994 4.0 L coupe aj6 engine. Seems to have a few oil leaks:
1. front crank seal and/or timing cover
2. oil cooler lines at filter housing (o-rings)
3. pinion seal on diff
I think 2 and 3 are fairly easy to replace. What about #1? Is this a common place for a leak and hints to replace?
TIA,
Bill

I have no helpful hints on #1....other than to do #2 and THEN see if #1 is worth really doing! I did #2 on my XJR and the improvement was so dramatic that the other leaks became insignificant. The leaking O-rings made quite a mess and made the other leaks look worse.
As for #3, the pinion seal, it really isn't all that easy. Well, it's easy to replace but making the job come out correctly isn't always easy. You gotta making absolutely 100% certain that the pinion nut is reinstalled to exactly the same torque/position as before removal. If not, pinion bearing failure is likely in the near future
