Default One of the last XJS's produced in 1996

My 02/96 production date celeb edition with VIN 225858. Bought it few weeks ago to restore.

Probably one of the last few ever made in 1996, since production stopped in April 4th 96. Per the JCNA website last VIN produced was 226445, a 6 litre Coupe.

The difference in VINs of 587 vehicles would also include all the XJ 4 doors produced during that period too.

How close is your VIN to the final production?

I’m 224949, so I’m a ways away.

I see the drivers side front fender paint is crackling up on you. Is your trunk bad too? I have that happening to my BRG car too.

Where else is your paint starting to go. I’m getting ready to get mine resprayed.

The sedan VINs were not intermingled with the XJS. You can reasonably assume it’s about 500 */- from the end.

You are absolutely right. I went and checked on EBAY a present listing for a 1996 XJ6 4 door and the VIN was way ahead: SAJHX1745TC756523

Thanks for the clarification.

The previous owner kept it inside for a long time until it developed a hesitation and then stopped running.

So it sat outside for a year killing the paint on the rear deck, fender and left door. I bought it non running. Fixed it - fuel pump relay. It has 85 K miles.

I plan to leave it as is and just drive it. My BRG 94 and Sapphire Blue 95 are in pristine condition and don't get driven much. Same goes for my 93 FHC with 40 K miles.

According the Jaguar, the last 6 VIN # are broken as follows:
100001 = XJS Convertible
300001 = Series III
500001 = XJ6/VDP
720001 = XJ Sedan
001001 = XK8

Not sure if they used all the numbers available for each model. My XJS is 148050 so if the number above is indeed correct mine was made well before they closed out the model.
Paint is still excellent though!

And this one here would be THE very last XJS ever produced.
Car number 115,413 with a straight six AJ16 power plant, released April 4, 1996.
The color may or may not be Zircon, but if it is it would be the same color as my XJR of 6 years later.

The last XJS ever produced.
