Sometimes! The owner of the E Type paid close to $2,000 CAD for the radiator and it wasn't a quality part. Price doesn't always indicate the quality. It's much easier to fix a copper/brass radiator too.

It looks like everyone has a different opinion on the radiators. I can get a new OEM Jaguar copper radiator for around $1,200.00 or a new custom aluminum radiator for the XJS V12 HE made in America, no epoxy, fully furnace brazed and fully TIG welded $900.00. Any recommendations on a manufacturer and model number for a replacement of the electric auxiliary fan?

For fans use only SPAL. They are OEM for Ferrari and many other expensive cars. Buy the SPAL with the largest amp draw available, which is the best guide to cooling power, although SPAL do quote reliable figures, amp draw is what you need to give real power. All CF/m numbers quoted by most other makes are sheer make-believe.

You can buy a radiator with the fan shroud made as part of the rad, and that is the easiest way to fit electric fans, I believe. This is a UK motorsport supplier who I have no direct experince of, but they are well established:

Anyway the photo gives you an idea of what I am getting at. If you do decide to do the fan mod, the wiring and control is important and many aftermarket stuff to do it will nort stand up to the XJS engine bay conditions, so feel free to post again for ideas from me and others.

Greg is 100% on the money about Spal fans. This website has a handy list of the fan sizes, CFM ratings, and amp draw. I've never been let down by a Spal fan.

I have the Wizard Cooling radiator in my car as well. I'm really pleased with its quality and construction. It does have fittings for the transmission lines in the same way the stock radiator did. I suspect that if you select the manual option on their website it won't have those.

If choosing to upgrade to a modern sanden unit, should the condenser be replaced as well assuming it is not leaking? Heard that there are some efficiency losses if using a condenser made for R-12 with R-134

It depends more on you and your old condenser. If it’s in rough shape, yes I’d change it even if the difference is trivial. I might be tempted to use a smaller one so the radiator gets more direct air. The logic is look at the interior space of a Honda or Toyota mini van/ SUV and yet the size of their condenser is much smaller than the Jaguar one.

Modern parallel flow condensers are more efficient than the old tube style or serpentine style condensers found before the 1990's. It's definitely worth the ~ $100 a new parallel flow condenser will cost you.
