Over axle pipes

You can remove them in or out of the car. They go backwards. They cannot be removed forwards. The trick is you need to put the metal ring for the 3 bolts around the olive through the cage first. Otherwise it will get caught on that. You can remove these pipes without removing anything else. I hope that helps. Ben from Simply Performance

Just to clarify, Brinny: There is a rod, fixed to the over axle pipe, that engages on a holder on the top inside face of the cage. Once the joint between the under car silencer and the over axle pipe is undone (the three bolt joint referred to by Ben) the over axle pipe has to be pulled forwards towards the driver an couple of inches to release (a) the rod from the cage and (b) the rod that holds the tunnel silencer into the tunnel.
Then, the over axle pipe can miraculously be pulled out backwards with various wriggling and cursing, and as Ben mentioned, the loose triangular three bolt joining collar has to be sent through the cage-hole first to get the pipe though!
Once the rods are free, it makes things a deal easier if the tunnel silencer is separated from the over axle pipe first.
FYI when refitting, ensure the axle cage holder rubber piece also has the tubular insulator in it. Lots of people forget this vital bit, and the result is burned rubber and a clonking exhaust. This is piece number 27 conveniently shown in this diagram the wrong way round! 26 and 28 are the axle cage holder fittings
