paint color options
im hoping to start the tear down and re-paint of my xjs soon. car was factory white. someone before me did a poor re-paint in black i was able to salvage the poor paint job to something that looked ok at 15 feet but it needs a re-paint.
its going to need a total repaint including door jams ect (black over spray on white door jams) even if i go back to the factory color. and white isn't top on my list.
i think the car looks good in black but black isn't my first choice ether due to upkeep on a black car
I was thinking maybe a dark charcoal gray color.
what do you guy's think the best looking color on a xjs would be. factory or non factory colors picture examples would be welcome as well

my first thought is to take it back to the factory color, and i do like white for working vehicles and jags can pull off white but seems like 90% of what i own is white and the xjs is a toy and i kinda want something other than white.
that rose bronze metallic is a interesting color, i don't think iv seen that one yet.

Man, Jaguar black is such liquid beauteous! It's almost as if it had a jell finish - kind of like instead of clear coat, it had a black tinted clear top finish. Wow! It was deep! My wife and I had a 1995 XJR-6 in that black and I have a good friend that has a '96 XJS-6 with only 19K miles done in black. However, I must say that white is a pretty unusual color to encounter and looks stupendous! Honestly, I'd lean toward going back to the original color. Here's just one more pic of the Rose Bronze Metallic - the wife likes the pink hue that often comes out. With the white interior it just jump out at ya. The top is a dark maroon.

Thanks Flint. We DO get a lot of thumbs up when driving with the top down - it's almost like people have forgotten about these Jags. It's kinda fun. It's my wife's car - I got it for her on our 15th anniversary, but it seems I drive it more often than she does. I'm a bit embarrassed about the amount of middle aged women that give this old lug "the look" when I'm driving the pink 'vert!
It's a very different experience than my 03 XKR coupe... More luxury GT than sports car, but it's a super nice drive. I'm constantly blown away by the numbers of really young kids that think it's the "****." The other day a high school boy and his girlfriend went nuts over it at the gas station - both jumping out of a Kia Soul and whipping out their camera phones to take pictures of it!????? They wanted to know if it was a new car! Hah!
Ez: I will say that there are a lot of beautiful grey and silver grey clear-coat colors out there right now that would look pretty stunning on that loooong hood. I used to have a 2001 XJR that was a wonderfully classy blue/sliver color ( I don't remember the exact color name, but the pic below is the color I'm talking about. I think a XJS would look mighty fine dressed it that '01 Jaguar color.

BRG!
it has various names (and hues) throughout the lifecycle of the XJS.
in '91 it was called "brooklands green" and has a decidedly more forest green hue than some other years. it can look nearly black in low light, but in direct sun, shines up to a unique color.
also, there aren't many cars out there that look good in this green, but in my opinion, green is best on jaguars of this era.
(sorry for the junky photos, can't even find a good one in the sunlight where the green shows like green)

I started re-arranging the shop today to take the jag over there this weekend. the jag does not need a lot of body work a couple little shopping cart type dings and no rust so it should be a pretty straight forward job hopefully wont take me long. I'm still torn on color. it seems right to me to take it back to factory color. but I already have 5 white vehicles. I don't really want to stay black even though black looks great you spend 2ce the time keeping it looking great than other colors. i like some greens and blues and reds and grays that would look stunning on the xjs. but part of me feels wrong for not taking it back to the factory color.

If you're keeping the car indefinitely, follow your dreams. Paint the car the way you think it would look best. Even if you stick with a Jaguar colour, there are lots of choices. Here's one small selection XJS Data - Catalog - Colors - Jaguar XJS information, articles, photos and register
