Part bcc5578 is one side and bcc5579 is the other. Terrys website says they sell a set of both so I bought 3 sets of these rubbers 2 days ago and paid by paypal. When l got the money refunded l called and asked why. They said they don't have the sets anymore and that its a web mistake. Its still there today though !!........
Then l found another company selling the pair, guess what, after payment they don't have them either.....money came back.
Anyhoo l then saw just the one side on Ebay and bought 3 of them at more than Terrys were selling the pair for. Guess who it turns out to be.....?
So Terrys sell me 1 side for more that the set of 2 under another name.
When I originally bought my 93 XJS both of these seals were missing, it took me awhile to figure out there should be something in the holes. I ended up buying what I think is a plumbing washer from the local Ace Hardware store. It is a stepped washer with the perfect size hole for the locating pin. I used silicone sealant to glue the stepped part into the hole and it works perfect. The rubber appears to be a lot tougher than the original and should last longer, the cost was under $2.00 for both. It is not original equipment but works great.
Jeeezzzz l'm still looking for this part.....twice now I've waited for it to come through the door only to find that is part 5578 again (even though its clearly marked as such on the bag...!!!).
I picked a couple of these for my car a few years ago. At the time, there was definitely a problem at Jaguar in terms of the numbering, as I ordered a left side one and received a right side one but it was numbered and sealed in the bag according to the left side published numbers. I later ordered another one and it turned up as the correct side.
Although Jaguar are showing them as not available at the moment, give Glen Parkes a ring at Jaguar Classic Parts and ask him if they actually have any and, if so, get him to check the bag as to whether it is definitely a left or right side one.
If Glen says that they haven't got any, ask him if he will kindly do a worldwide dealer search (which he can do) which will verify if any Jaguar dealer in the world is still holding one on their stock shelf. Because of the previous mentioned numbering problem, buy one of each if he can find one.
You know l was just thinking that......I just changed 1 yesterday and it was the left one !!! l just looked at which one matched. The package said 5578....l didn't think that it was supposed to be the right one.
I must check the other 3 l have.
I wish...lol
I bought about 5 bcc5578 in all and 1 bcc5579 (from Switzerland). The Swiss one came in a Jag bag with bcc5578 printed on it. That was the one wrongly bagged.....Yeah baby...
Good luck on your search. Although as already said, the difference is not that big that bcc5578 would also fit.
Hey Guys-I have a DB7 and most of my car is either an AJ6 or late model XJS so whenever I need a part i price out the corresponding Jaguar part before buying Aston Martin...Looks like the stock ended up over there! Well they can be had for $7 each from Scuderia...I just got them.
SWEET!!! Looks like Scuderia still has them in stock. I have been looking everywhere with no luck. The stepped plumbing washer was great idea, but time to find the right one... for seven dollars and change for the right part (I hope) looks great to me. Thanks a lot. This forum is so valuable.
