Passenger side door lock actuator

I have an intermittent passenger side (left) door lock actuator.
Sometimes it works sometimes not.
Anybody give some guidance on how to remove it?
It's held onto a subframe within the door shell by a couple of screws... but there's no access to these, apart from drilling holes in the door shell as suggested in a post I found on the subject. I'd like to do it without drilling any holes.
Do you access via the door lock on the end of the door?
Any help greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I have mislaid my JDHT CD!

I think that adjusting the locking linkages, including that which links the lock barrel to the actual door locking mechanism, will do the job. You can get to it from the inside of the door, just!
Numbers 9 and 10 in this diagram. One, if not both, can be adjusted:

Chris,
+1 for Greg's suggestion of adjusting the rods.
If you do have a faulty actuator (unlikely I think), here's the instructions:
FRONT DOOR LOCK MOTOR RENEW
Disconnect the battery earth lead.
Remove front door trim pad
Disconnect door lock motor harness multi plug.
Remove and discard harness to door securing tape.
Reposition weather strip for access.
Displace door lock operating rods from guide clips.
Displace and remove rear control rod guide clip.
Disconnect the outer lock to mechanism operating rod.
Reposition rod from mechanism.
Disconnect clip retaining outer release handle to mechanism operating rod.
Reposition the rod from the mechanism.
Disconnect the clip retaining door lock barrel rod to mechanism.
Reposition the rod from the mechanism.
Disconnect the clip retaining door release rod to mechanism.
Reposition the rod from the mechanism.
Undo and remove the outer lock securing screws.
Displace and remove the outer lock assembly.
Displace and remove the motor/lock mechanism assembly.
Undo and remove the motor securing screws.
Displace and remove the motor assembly from the mechanism.
Place the motor aside.
The refitting procedure is a reversal of the removal procedure.

Ok
Thanks for the advice.
I'll have a go at reducing any slack in the linkages and see if this helps, before going for the nuclear option of taking the actuator out.
From Pauls info , getting it out requires a bit of keyhole surgery to disconnect the linkages to the door handle not best suited to my not so slim and increasingly inflexible fingers....

Remove the door card, then actuate the locks with the key (a friend does this) while you are looking at the mechanism.
Once it fails to actuate, push the actuating rods in the required direction to make it work, then adjust to remove the slack.
It is almost certain that the locking system; if it works intermittently rather than not at all, has a rod adjustment fault.
