passive seat belts
The passive restraint system on my 1988 xjs lhd coupe is inoperative. When the ignition is off it is in the proper park position. When starting the car the restraint drive cycles to aft position then immediately goes to park position (fwd). This renders them useless and exposes me to a ticket.) Occasionally the restraint drive cycles back and forth while driving. Can anyone tell me what the best solution is. The nearest Jag dealer is 240 miles (Portland Or.) from where I live. SE WA State.

There is a special belt mount bracket for each side that was included with your car when it was new. They are usually in the glove cubby and they attach to the 'B' pillar in the belt track to attach the shoulder belt. It is a pain to remove the belt from the drive winch mount point and reattach it to the special mount. They used to be 'lifetime warranty' for the motor, track and control module but I don't know if they still are.
