Hi Greg@Paul(PJTS) Gunner01@BB@afterburner1@luvmyxjs

I managed to find the 'Brittle' plastic air deflector which came off my red XJS but it wasn't the right shape to match the mystery piece of plastic, that I found on the grass.

But later on when the wind dropped, I managed to get in the garage and had a look all round the Car with a torch.

To my great relief, everything was as it should be, with no signs of anything broken off and not a single oil drip anywhere!

Next I checked all round the Merc, which has lots of plastic parts and also which I should have checked in the first place!

And that was also Ok

So maybe some 'thoughtful citizen' (not) found it laying in the road and decided to lob it over the wall so no one would get a puncture driving over it, except of course me!

Thank you all for your help Guys, which was appreciated.

I have nightmares about that piece, the red one, that attaches the bottom of the two fenders (wings) together.
Mine was completely rotten, barely enough left for a template, spent a week making a new one from scratch.

Glad it's not your Jag missing parts!

Cheers Gunner01

Fortunately that 'Red Piece' looked a lot worse than it was and after a bit of elbow grease, came up looking like new!

The rest of the Car is also getting there too and would be nearly finished by now if it wasn't for the blinking awful weather, which has been hanging around since the beginning of March.

Nice job. Looks like a million bucks.
What type of undercoating did you use?

Thanks

The Stuff I used was 'Hammerite (Black) Waxoyl' for the Chassis and High Temperature Silver paint for the Exhaust.

The underside of your car is spectacular. I understand the Hammerite and heat paint, but how did you get under the car to clean it, and what did you use as a cleaner? I would like to do this to my car. I think I would first use rust kill paint and then Hammerite. Yes/No?

Thank you for those kind words.

This Car is a one owner, with under 25,000 Miles on the Clock from New!

24,750 (or something like that) and has not be used or started for 15 years! 'Still got the last Tax disc on the windscreen!'

She's also been on that Car Lift for 15 years as well (but on the ground) as the Radiator got a leak, at the same time as one of my close family members died.

At which point I was so upset, that I just could not bring myself to drive that Car anymore, which with the benefit of hindsight, was not a great idea but there you go!

I bought the Garage Lift from a Circus, which was lifted on my Land Rover by some Clowns but that's another story altogether!

Nightmare journey getting it home and then I couldn't get it in the driveway.

Had to chain saw the hedge down in the middle of the Night!

Were the Neighbours happy? do the 'mathe'

Anyway, as far as the Cleaning goes, I gave her a high pressure wash with a wet sandblaster, which I do NOT recommend! as when the Water dries out you get left with a Sand residue.

Although I kept it well away from the engine, which I also sealed up in a polythene bag and then blew any sand away with my road compressor 'as you do'

If you are going to do this a good power wash would be fine and all you need.

Then I used a wire cup brush on the head of a small angle grinder, together with some normal hand wire brushes and a lot of elbow grease!

Day1 Power Wash

Day2 Wire Brushes

Day3 Black Wax Oyl

It really isn't hard to do once you get stuck in and now I'm in the process of putting in a new Rad but the Weathers been pants and I've also got 101 more other jobs which are forming a very long queue.

Although I'm sure that I will get there in the end.

Thank you for your kind and informative response. i've been following your posting and find them very informative. Your car interior is a joy to behold; just love that color.

Problem number 1 is getting hold of a lift. Rental stalls with lifts are no longer available because of liability insurance. I think the rust kill paint is a good idea because undercoating will hide any active rust. Finding a shop that will clean and paint and do a through job for a reasonable price is the second problem.
Thanks again
