Default Polishing door sill plates on a XJS

Hi.

Has anyone tried to polish a set of door sill plates off a 1994 XJS coupe?
Finding a brand new set is nearly impossible and although mine is in great condition I would like to remove a few little scratches and bring back the shine -
Any tips , recommendations? Pros and cons ?

Thank you

You could wet sand them first to remove the scratches. Start with 1000 grit and build up to 3000 grit. Then polish.

I did it by hand, and fitted some V12 5.3 XJS sill labels i found on eBay. If its a v12, that is. 😊😊

Terry007,

They are on a 94 Coupe, not the 96 Convertible in your signature? It might make a difference as to what you do because Jaguar changed material from, I think chrome, to stainless or polished alloy in the last couple of years of production. I'll check up when I'm home and find where the changepoint is and what is the metal.

Cheers

Paul

I would be careful sanding the extruded material, maybe remove and try that on the underside first. I am pretty sure that they are made of anodized aluminum and you don’t want to sand through the anodizing. The insert is stainless but will never be flat if you try to remove it- the laser engraved “Jaguar” will be damaged by sanding for sure.

Paul, thank you for the reply. Actually I was referring indeed to my 94 coupe V12
I have 4 Jaguar and have not update my signature in a while , in fact I don't even know how

1994 XJS coupe V12 11.210 original miles or close to that If I remember
1995 XJS V12 convertible original 48k miles
1996 XJS convertible original 13.212 miles
2003 Jaguar SuperV8 original 48 k miles
