So far, we only have 7 people willing to go in on a group buy. We need at least 10-12 to make it look appealing to Allan. If anyone else is interested, this is your last week to get in on it.

Hello All,

I found this toic while setting up a Google alert for this book title this afternoon. It looks like a great book, and while I don't own an xjs I have always liked them and loved the Tom Walkinshaw racecars.

I would be interested in this group buy as well if you guys will have me (I really only registered to the forum today in order to respond)

What would the cost be and how would you handle distributing the shipment once it got to the states? I could just make a PayPal payment to whoever organized the buy.

Thanks,
Dan L

Ronald and Dan,

I'm not yet sure what kind of price break Mr. Scott might give us as a group, but, I'm pretty sure that the size of the discount will be tied to the size of our group. So far, we don't even have 10 people who have confirmed an interest in buying the book. I had hoped that we would would have at least 15-20 people before I try to negotiate a discount with Allan, as that would make for a much stronger bargaining position. However, no matter our size, I'll see what he might be willing to do.

Guys,

I just heard from Allan about the book. Although he didn't mention a dollar amount, he says that he would be happy to give a discount if we can get 10 people to buy. and post their thoughts of the book online (I'm sure he's talking about posting on the book's Facebook page). Allan also said that he would be glad to write a personal message and sign each book for us. However, we will have to pay full freight from NZ, since he can't get us a discount for that.

In his message he said that he is on his way to the UK for some book signings at Goodwood, and to catch up with the Le Mans winning Jaguar team at Silverstone in July, so, those of you who are planning to attend those events can likely meet him in person, and get a book from him there.

OK, we have 7 confirmed buyers in our group. We need just 3 more.

Ronald, and Dan, can we count you in, to bring us up to 9?

Bummer I will just miss him at Goodwood Festival. Vacationing in England and France for my week off for the 4th of July. Going to Castle Bromwich on Tuesday so that should make us for that.

Another advertisement!! We need 3 more people for a book that looks well worth it and will not be easily obtainable. I am really looking forward to this one.

If the cost will be equal to, or less than what it would cost me to order it on my own you can count me in.

for reference, I have sent out a request for a shipping estimate to the US from this seller:
TWR and Jaguar's XJS: Inside Tom Walkinshaws Group A Racing Team by Allan Scott - ISBN: 9780987666550 (John Douglas Publishing)

Their price is $62.09 AUS (they are outside of Sydney), which is ~$56 US. This is the best price I have found. Obviously, this would not be a signed copy.

I will post any reply I get from Wheelers Books.

Dan

How ironic that you will be in England while the U.S. celebrates 237 years of independence from that county's rule.

OK, so now we are 9:

1. Sarc
2. gregh
3. 86jag
4. J_C_R
5 JagZilla (me)
6. Ronbros
7. ukester
8. RonaldP
9. motolindo

Since Allan will be out of pocket for the month of July, I think we should extend this opportunity for at least 2-3 more weeks, to see if we can get a few more members onboard.

This book does more than simply tell the story of the TWR XJS team. It also illustrates some of the modifications the team made to the car. These race-proven modifications can be employed by those of us who wish to take our cars to the next level of performance. I can't think of any place you can get that kind of documented information at any price.

Can I make a suggestion?

Can you figure out the price of the book based on 10, then maybe 15 and 20?

I believe that if you were to say "who is interested in a group buy for this book at $---", you would have a better response.

Right now no one knows if they're signing up for $25 or $125.

Thanks.

That's easier said than done, since Allan is now on his way to the UK for the entire month of July. I don't know if I will hear from him until he returns to NZ. However, when I first contacted him about buying a book for myself, he quoted me a single-book price of "about $90US Including postage", so its safe to assume that group pricing will be less than that.

Japthug,

Thank you for being the tenth member of our group.

I bet that your XJS really stands out as a thing of beauty wherever you go in Japan.

Gentlemen, the new list is as follows:
1. Sarc
2. gregh
3. 86jag
4. J_C_R
5 JagZilla (me)
6. Ronbros
7. ukester
8. RonaldP
9. motolindo
10. Japthug

Hopefully, our group will double in size in the next 2-3 weeks, while we await Mr. Scott's return home.

Being a local NZer, I emailed Allan Scott last night.
He is hopefully posting me a book tomorrow.
Looking forward to a good technical read...
I am seriously considering getting Blue Dorward, also ex-TWR and local to me, to build me a hot road V12 some time. Need to get a V12 car first... I would happily go saloon or XJS, just want a good car. I would like a late XJS with the 6 litre and outboard rear discs - none for sale here at present

He will be signing at Goodwood and Silverstone Classic, for those of you in Blighty...

Allan's book arrived yesterday
I have had a quick look at some of it - great reading so far
I like the bit towards the end where he explains how Jaguar got him to investigate the most effective way to get more power-torque from the V12, culminating in the later 6 litre engines

Just putting this topic back to the top of the list, in hopes of finding new interested parties to join us. I don't really expect to hear from Allan until he returns from his month of racing-related festivities in the UK, so, we still have a couple weeks to add to our ranks.

I'll also post a link to this thread in the Off Topic section of the General Jaguar forum to see if there is any interest among owners of other models.

I don't have an XJS - maybe someday I'll add one to the collection....

But I'd like a copy of the book for my shop / personal collection.

Please put me on the list as well.

Thanks,

George
