Scott,
I just sent off an email and a paypal payment to Allan. My paypal screen looked a bit different than what you described. I didn't have a "Buy" tab. I clicked Send Money, then filled in Allan's email, the dollar amount and clicked that I was paying for goods. At the next screen I was able to choose from my saved addresses and add comments.
Thanks again for setting this all up. I can't wait!
Dan

I got home from work this afternoon to find that my wife had placed a sizable heavy duty plastic envelope at my spot at the dinner table. One look at the address and I knew it was from Allan. I can't believe the book got here so soon. I was expecting it to take at least 3 weeks. Those of you who have already ordered should see similar packages arriving on your doorstep soon.
Skimming through the book has confirmed everything I have heard about the book from people who already own it. This is going to be a great read, and an even better reference standard for upcoming performance improvements in my Jags.
I think any "Honey-Do" list my wife may have had for me this Labor Day weekend just got preempted

I want that Group C book too. Allan assured me we will get a discount on all of his future offerings :-)

Of those who have ordered the book, who has received theirs, and what do you think of it? I haven't had as much time as I'd like to read mine, but, I'm finding all kinds of useful information hidden within the stories. Allan doesn't simply list the modifications made to the cars, he tells why they were considered in the first place, how they were done, the results, and when needed, chronicles the modifications that were made to the modifications in order to get the results the team wanted.
Group A Racing only allowed for minimal modifications to be made to the engines. However, If Allan's book on the Group C cars is written like this one, we are going to find out how to get some serious power out of a heavily modified V12.
Of course the book goes into many non-engine related modifications for the XJSs the team raced, and there is great information on the suspension and braking mods. However, Allan was in charge of TWR's Engine Division, so the book concentrates heavily on this subject, which is perfectly OK with me.

Mine arrived yesterday (ordered on 8/29). I have only been able to thumb though it really quickly, but it looks great. It is packed with detailed technical info and scans of old documents. Some of the unique things I saw while flipping through :
Scan of a work order from Jaguar to TWR for engine development work (xj6).
Scan of a Hand drawn schematic of early Lucas engine management system.
Copy of a crankshaft vibration test.
Photos and discussion of specific chassis modifications like A arms reinforced and with rod end upgrades
Lots of other vintage color photos of specific technical features and mods, racing, team personnel.
I can't wait to dig in and read it!

mine came on 9/16/13, great read so far.
of note,Allen was on the Mazda RX7 rotary race team, in 1979,I was introduced to the rotaries same year, had a 1974 RX4 , pix of my last 1987 RX7 turbo in my garage!
lot of good info in the book, politics and such, like dropping USA Group 44 out of the race program, after they did much of the early R&D work! but i know its all about the money.
the valves and springs in my V12 came from 44s Lanky Foushee.

Check those dyno figures carefully, as I think there is an error in them, in terms of what they refer to (might be second set; I am working from memory, here).
When I first read this, I thought, man, where's the detailed summary of the engine mods? Then, when I re-read, there it was....the detail is embedded, encouraging multiple reads, for different purposes.
Can't wait for that Group C book!

after reading some so far, it seems as tho making 500hp is not going to be easy, especially with a 5.3, seems as tho a 6.0L would be better to start with, but also the longest stroke you can put into a Jag V12!
a quick question; for a street car? would you want 500hp and 400torque, or 400hp and 500 torque, think about it, for a street driver car?
rarely is a street car at max rpm, its in the low-mid rpm range for all intents and purpose for 90% of the time.
like i mentioned on another post, F1 cars have 800hp and only around 250 torque, if you put an F1 engine in an XJS it would be more of a joke than useful! (just imagine the gearing).
course be great bragging rights when at a show, or car gathering!

TWR used an 84mm stroke crank in the development 6.4L. I believe this is about as far as you can go without lifting the heads.
It was interesting that TWR made over 500hp in the 5.3 Grp A with standard size valves, ports and throttle butterfly. Allan did mention that the Grp A engine made the same HP at 3800rpm as the road car did at 5700rpm.
Anyway it was a good read, I remember watching bathurst with the V12 XJS and thinking I wanted one of those. But a new one cost as much as my house in 1989.
