Default Possible Purchase

Long time Jag lover, first time potential purchaser, first time poster. I have a 1986 XJS V12 in my sights. Body is in good condition, paint looks very good, interior is solid (normal wear and no dash cracks). Car has 61,000 miles. In speaking with the seller, the car starts fine and idles just fine. When the car is put in gear and you try to drive it, the engine dies.

First, what could that issue be? Fuel issue or vacuum line? Any other ideas? The price is $3,000 and I feel like this could be an easy fix at a good price.

Thanks for for all your ideas and feedback!

I would want to guess a fuel starvation problem. Fuel pump, fuel filter maybe?

My personal opinion: if the engine starts and idles fine and smoothly (no ticking sound), and if exterior and interior conditions are good, $3k is a very fair price. But check for rust underneath. Also I always ask for owners history. Good luck!
