Unhappy Power Steering Reservoir

Several days ago I noticed that there is a power steering leak below my power steering reservoir on my 94 XJS 2+2 4.0. I tightened the clamps and this morning on my way to work I noticed that there is still a leak. As I sit at work now I am wondering if it might be the reservoir. Is it common for these reservoirs to develop leakes? Where is the best place to get a cheap reservoir. What is involved in swapping it out?

Thanks

Check the hose first for it may have a small crack in it below the clamp. I doubt the reservoirs have a common history of leaking.
Luck, Rag Jag

I would remove the reservoir and check the hose attachment tubes for cracks.
Then check the hoses themselves.
My Jag was leaking very slightly on the supply hose. The hose had cracked where the strap went around it. I replaced both hoses just for grins.
No more leaks.

Big time TIP:
I really went off the deep end when I first tried to remove the filler cap
on the Power Steering reservoir because you have to
remove it by turning it "CLOCKWISE"
and put it on "Counter-CLOCKWISE" !

Just the opposite of the old "Righty tighty - Lefty Loosey" jingle.
Another one of those Jaw tightening, teeth grinding, Homer Simpson "DOH",
"Oh, Mommy make it stop hurting", Jaguar Engineering,
"Oh, by the way . . . " features.

Just like the left hand threads on the left side of my old Dodge Dart. I broke 2 lugs before I noticed the L stamped on wheel stud. Lol. I musta been a real dumb *** back then.

BcXj, Countless lugs have been twisted off by mechanics not realizing the threads were reversed. Of course, you may still be a dumb-*** but not because of that. :-)Of course none of this has anything to do with a leaking reservoir.
Cheers, RagJag

You could try and put some power steering leak stop in there, worked for me until I got the rack overhauled.

I had time tonight to have a closer look. The car has been sitting over winter and the fluid had leaked below the level of the top hose. It appeared that the fluid had run down the top hose and collected near the bottom of the engine compartment. I cut the hose back to some fresh rubber and replaced the clamp, which was stripped. I think I will top up the reservoir and monitor it to see if it solved the problem.

I was quite surprised how easily the hose fit over the tube on the reservoir. Is it supposed to be like this or do they fit snugly?

What fluid should I use to top it up? I can't seem to find the fluid recommended in the book.

In my experience this is not a great idea.

I put some in and a few months later had to get the distributor to pony
up for a new power steering pump. They paid without question. That
suggests it was something known to them, and something they would
like to keep quiet.
