We haven't had any tire rubbing issues at all, front or rear.

Another video we just took tonight. This thing is so fun to drive with the 3 speed! I can brake boost it and it launches great, then it hits full boost a few moments later and it really moves, then it shifts into 2nd under full boost and you get another burst of acceleration. I think it's going to have a pretty decent 1/4 mile time for a stock 3.0L engine in a 4000lb+ car.

Ok I'm going to preface this with two things:

1. I haven't read a single post in this thread. At all. Just read the title.

2. I have an '85 XJS with a 434 stroked small block in it and TWM Quad Sidedraft 45DCOE throttle bodies and coil on plug ignition that I'm building up for it right now.

Here's a pic of those throttles on the Moon cross ram manifold:

I just have to say that I am unbelievably proud of you and your swapping the 2J into the XJS. Awesome idea. We're working with a customer right now to potentially put an RB26 into a Rover P4 Sedan (1962).

Kindof like, well - nearly identical to this:

If you ever need an intake manifold fabricated for the 2J, hit me up. We're working on some new designs with a local company here in town that does a lot of Supra and 240 swap work. We came up with that design to fit some blanks that they had waterjet. They accidentally made the blanks about 3/8 too thin and it required a pretty substantial redesign.

Ok. Now I am off to read 122 posts. Saw your videos above. Sounds nice. I would love to see some pics of the install and then I'll show you the last 1J swap we worked on. Another fun one.

Cheers!

J

first of all, that is one MEAN xjs you've got. I always thought it would be cool to do a 2j swap into a jag. I've been following this thread for a while and cant wait to see more vids / dyno results.

BUT... I've got to know... where on EARTH did you get all 6 bilsteins for $400 shipped?! that is ridiculous!

There was a guy on eBay with them listed at that price, but by the time I went to actually order, he said they were not available.
I think that in the end I paid about $650 for the set, one of our distributors gave me a big discount for parts going on my personal car.

Thanks very much!!! I would be interested to see your intake manifold once you get it done. We have an inexpensive one that is a copy of the old Greddy 2JZ-GTE manifold, but I would also like to have something better quality.

1JZ swaps are usually our specialty, we have done over 100 1jz swaps into Mk3 Supras, SC300's, Cressidas, and MK2 Supras. I do love the way they sound and the way they perform. But, the 2JZ is hard to beat for raw power.

Fantastic project and probably excellent power / weight improvement!?
Not sure if I would keep the original 400 turbo, it seems like a bit inferior solution for such high tech engine, but you probably had your reasons and it worked our well. My plan is: body -> suspension -> 5-speed kit from here.
Also, it seems like your '90 is in excellent shape, besides the blown V12. I have to weld mountains here, to get to what you got for $1000!

Great craftsmanship too, I wanna be like you, when I grow up

I've been eyeing that same 5 speed conversion Mish_Mish. It'll be a while however. You could buy a decent xjs for that much haha! And great project here!

Yes, but 2 x XJS = 2 x automatic transmissions

i think the poster of this forum has long since moved on but i love this swap, even though i hate toyota engines, ive been thinking that boost in a xjs would be cool, so ive been looking into a twin turbo 3.8 gn motor. (drive a grand national and youll understand)

this thread also gave me the size wheels i need to get for my can so thanks a Lot!

BTW i did the 5 speed conversion on my xjs, and it didnt cost nearly as much as the driven man. im currently working on making a upgrade for my upgraded pedal box that fits manual brakes and a set of interlinked break and clutch pedals like the ones from wilwood. I WILL start a thread soon if i ever remember.

Awesome xjs tho, id love to see what you have done by now.

HI, Calvin, sounds like your gonna have a great car!

no doubt a 3.8 turbo engine would be faster than a boosted V12, and much lighter weight.

and most guys here, have never driven a Grand national, but having one now, there suspension can sure plant the tires, for maximum acceleration. excellent weight transfer, seems to be the nature of them.

that said, you must be a young gun, loving manual shifting, and MANUAL brakes, i'm older now, so just aint my style. usetah be that way tho.

it always amazes me when something different shows up,about performance cars!!

follow this,, manual shift has always been faster than automatics,!

but this GN with 6.0L LS2, with Drive-by-Wire and the 4L80E auto. on a hiway rolling kickdown is fantastic. 40-90mph. most street runs happen like that

i been playing some on the street, when the other guy with manual and pedal throttle, has decided to go for it, he starts shifting and his throttle is not wide open YET.

the DBW opens FULL if you move the pedal just 25% Quickly,(computor controlled) and the instantanius shift of the auto. goes from 4th to 2nd and the throttle plate is already wide open! no screwing around with clutches , shifter levers and gas pedals.

course 350hp and 400torque helps!

GM sure did there home work on that system.

my dad used to have a grand national, and for a while my friend had the motor swapped into his 68 chevelle ( dont ask why) and they were pretty awesome. I cant stand the drive by wire tho, it doesnt think the same way i do, so i always end up butting heads with it on my 02 denalli, espcially when towing.

and the manual box is going into my next xjs, which i plan to build as the most aggresive xjs out there. lowered 2 inches, too stiff for street, but ill drive it on it anyways, im going back and forthof weather or not i was a procharged v12 or another engine in it. who knows.

my current project is an 87 xjs with a v12 and a 5 speed manual, im planning on upgrading to a 3.31 rear end, and im putting on 17x9 with 275 40 r17 tires in the rear and 17 x8 with 245 45 R17 in the front. with LM style tuning fork style wheels. im also getting a body kit, of which i dont know the make, but im gonna put a porsche style iroc air damn on the front, and i might even run side exhaust. i havent decided what im gonna do for that yet. its all up in the air as of now.

I'm still here!

We have been really busy at the shop this year, but I finally made time to pull the torque converter, and I took it to a local converter shop to have it loosened up a little. The 11" converter with 2800 stall was just too much for this little 3.0L. It was bogging the engine down just a little too much in 1st, and with a few hundred rpm higher stall speed it should be much faster off the line. I will post a few more pics and a video once it's on the road next week. It's cool that people are still interested in this thread, I really want to get it done and be able to daily drive it. Stay tuned!
