Protected No Claims Bonus (Is this normal?) XJS V12
Having just earned (almost earned) One years No Claims Bonus on my XJS
I asked the Insurance Company, if I could protect it and they said No!
According to them I have to earn at least 4 years NCB before I can protect it.
Is that Normal Industry Standard Practice?
Apparently each individual Car needs to earn its own NCB.

Hi OB - Yes as far as I know its always been 4 years with NCB before you can qualify for protection.
Peter with his X type for example, drove well, no points / accidents etc right up to around 3 years and 10 months, but couldn't protect his NCB, then had a bump
Never heard of the "individual car" situation though, sounds like that may be peculiar to your insurance company?

I don't know how it works over there, but I have lifetime NCB on any vehicle I add to my policy.
I have had the same policy for 17 years, I just add and remove vehicles as they come and go. Add my wife is named as a regular driver to all vehicles as well, so if she now starts a policy with the same company she will get automatic lifetime NCB.
Only extra expense is the excess if one of the kids has an accident under the age of 25, as long as they are a named driver on the policy. So their cars are registered and insured in my name too.

These Insurance Companies work in Mysterious Ways!
You need NCB in the first place, in order to get a good discount which I had, the only problem being, that it lapses after a certain time.
At least I know about the 4 years rule now, so thanks for confirming that.

I've got protected Bonus for life on the Merc but no doubt they would still put the Premium up, if I had a 'prang'
XJS is different, as I have agreed Valuation Insurance.

I have to look into agreed value for the XJ6, at the time I bought it 16 months ago for $2000 they insured it for market value which was $5000. Now it owes me considerably more than that I have to get it valued by an independant Jaguar specialist and a letter from a club or association stating the historical value of the vehicle.
I don't belong to a club, and the QJDC is not a place I would go back to after the rudeness towards new members back in 2003 at a club BBQ because we only had X-types(mine,3 ltr V6,BRG). It was a real us and them type of doo. But that is a storey for another day!

Agreed Valuation Insurance, is the way to go, I sent them a few photos and they were quite happy with that, together with a condition report that I had to fill in myself.
So if you start telling 'porkies' and it is not as good as you said, then no doubt they might decide to cut down on the payment if the worst comes to the worst.
