purist beware, fender mounted mirror ideas.
so i was watching the newest james bond movie, and looking at the aston martin db5, and loving the fender mounted mirrors. and i couldnt help but wonder what they would be like on my xjs. I like more unusual aspects on my car. so i figured id get some opinions on them. What do you guys think?

Ill drive it to your house and park it in your driveway for about 6 months, and eventually theyll grow on you. And your XJS will have its own pair.

I've had wing mounted mirrors on an MGB, an XK150, and on the fenders of an MG TA. Hard to see because of he distance and impossible to adjust without a helper.
I do like vintage bullet mirrors, particularly these from Merlin, and I think they would look good on an XJS. I think I would mount them a little further to the rear than the stock mirror just to get it out from behind the quarter light.

How about the legality of fitting them? Over here in Blighty we are not even supposed to fit a bonnet leaper unless it was an original fit (although that still seems to be open to interpretation between police forces); apparently they cause excessive amounts of damage to idiot pedestrians/cyclists when they come flying over your bonnet. Maybe mirrors ahead of the windscreen would have the same effect?

IMO you took a wrong turn in trying to translate that to an XJS. Even the E types s3 have door mirrors.

the idea makes sense...the mirrors on mounted in your field of view when driving so you don't have to look anywhere. However there are a lot of specifics that affect it. Wrong thing and it is in a weird place with a small image.
My MG has one and i have never really liked them. It ruins the lines of the fenders IMO. i don't think id ever put one on an XJS...plus there is a huge hole in the door to fill. I guess YES the car does have classic enough looks it wouldn't be out of place to any passerby...but no...just no (imo)
