Default Radio display not bright

Dear Jagies, the display in my original radio (1996 convertible, 4.0L) is not very bright. At daylight and especially with the roof open (bright sunshine) I can't see anything. What do I have to do so that the display on the radio becomes brighter? Thanks!

The radio display is not car-adjustable, as its lighting is interior to the radio unit.

AndreasXJS,

The bulb units are prone to blowing over time on those late face-off units. Are all the bulbs intact?

So, does this mean that I have to open the radio?

If it is the in-radio illumination, yes. But I would be surprised if it had a bulb rather than an LED array in there.

Do you mean internal to the radio, Paul?

Greg,

I'm probably using the wrong terminology. The late Alpine face-off unit has a number of illumination elements in it. But you're probably right, they are likely not individual bulbs? But they seem to have a habit of failing and parts of the display lose their lighting. I've not taken one of the face-off plates apart to know how the illumination works. But I'm sure some members must have had the same problem (and fixed it!)

Paul
