Radio/Stereo Adaptor Plug to Replace Pull Out XJS Unit with a Modern one
Hi Guys
I've heard that it is possible to buy an adaptor plug (with cables?) so that you can replace the Original Pull out Stereo Unit on an XJS V12 with a more Modern one without having to cut any wires.
So that you can easily convert it back to the Original one if required.
Please could someone tell me where I can get one and what is the model number of the adapter I need.

OB,
You can definitely do it cheaper than that for the same plug. I paid £4.99 for mine. I'll go and dig out the ebay seller.....
Found it:

Brilliant Thanks!
But I've just had a look on the back of my Original Pull out Stereo and it only has one plug on the back.
Whereas the Adaptor Lead has Two Brown Plugs on one end and One White Plug on the other end.
I am presuming (perhaps incorrectly) that the White Plug will go into the back of the New Stereo.
If so I seem to have too many plugs on the other end
Do I need a different adaptor?
How do I connect it up, as there seem to be too many plugs.

Radio/Stereo Adaptor Plug to Replace Pull Out XJS Unit with a Modern one
FWIW, not all replacement radios use the ISO interface. So you might need an additional adapter between your new radio, and the ISO plug.
Also, for those with older vintage XJSs, that adapter won't work with the two white plug connectors on my 85 and 87. The factory harnesses on my cars have round pins in the two white connectors.
These are the connectors coming out of the radio.

The white connector will work to connect to at least my car (92) but then you will need an ISO to "whatever stereo brand you are using" connector. The last time I checked, each manufacturer was consist across its range (ie all Pioneer stereos have the same plug) but each manufacturer is different. Kind of annoying....... But maybe its part of their policy to keep you to their brand. I must admit it does influence my choice.....

This is a Stereo that I found on ebay and was just a random one that I picked out.
I've looked at lots of others of a similar Spec and all of them have got just one White Socket.
While some of the High end models may have the double Socket, I'm really amazed what you can buy for under £30.
Even the £15 ones are amazing value for the price but all of them have got the single Socket.
So not quite sure where I should go from here regards wiring it up.

I agree its really annoying, you would think the people who do these adaptors would make it clear that it won't plug straight in to all units.

Hi OB,
You should be able to find a cheap 12-pin to ISO adapter on eBay for a few quid. Then if you also buy that PC2-66-4 jaguar adapter, you can buy one of the cheap units or move to an ISO-standard unit later. Either way, you don't have to cut the original wiring loom.

Cheers!
I'm sure I will find a way round it and I won't be cutting the Wiring, no matter what, so Job No.1. is to order PC2-66-4 and go from there.

The thing you have to be careful about is having enough room behind a normally sized (ie old type) radio setup to get the adaptors in. It is possible to actually affect the operation of the aircon unit if things are too tightly packed in there, as in jamming the flaps.
I am not recommending it to you, but in my case I had to cut the old loom and splice in the wires to an ISO plug, rather than use an adaptor to the ISO plug, just because of lack of room.
Your car has the Delanaire MkIII unit, so it may be different, of course.

Thanks, I will bear that in mind but they now do a lot of Stereos, that are half the depth of the Jaguar Pull out unit.
You won't believe the kind of Stereo you can buy for £15 a bit like it was back in the day when you would be paying £150 for an Angle Grinder.
Whereas now you can buy one of those for only £20
Picking up on something you said in one of your other Posts, Yesterday I went for a drive with no Music and just the Sound of the Engine to see what it was like.
I have to say it was really good but not sure that I could live without Music forever.

The only problem l had fitting my new pioneer radio, in a Stag not a Jag. Was that the loom iso came with 2 separate connecter sockets, not 1 as shown on eBay and that they were a different thickness than the double iso radio plug. If you look at the cable Pictures you will see what l mean.
This was easily corrected carefully with an angle grinder, by reducing the thickness of the sides of each of the 2 single sockets that touched together.

Hi Malc
Now we are Talking!
This could be the very thing I need and also at a price I want to pay.
I seldom if ever listen to the Radio when I am driving and prefer to use my Phone as an MP3 Player.
Which is why I only wanted an inexpensive unit in the first place, basically something with an Aux to connect my phone to a more powerful Amp.
The one you mentioned 'Ticks a lot of Boxes' but as you say the 'Bonus' is that it comes with the Vital Adaptor for 'Non Iso' connections, that many of these bargain basement Stereos seem to have.
So even if I spend a bit more, Amazon certainly seems to be the best place that I can find what I am looking for.
I only wish I knew the name of that lead.
Thanks Again
