The wire wheels are very much chrome plated
Last I checked it is pretty damn expensive, almost just as much as buying new wheels. The worst part is you have to disassemble the wheel and then get it back together and reseal it. It would really come down to surfing the internet and calling local shops to get prices. Not a lot of people on this forum have wires and I'm not of anyone who has had theirs re-chromed. Keep in mind you cannot do cheap thin plating, it needs a good layer to deal with the harsh conditions of being a wheel.
If you don' have wires then they probably aren't chrome and some restoration and wheel places can grind them in various ways to regain the stock finish.

OK if you do have wire wheels(no pix), a good friend just went thru retsoring an E type with wires.
he said it is cheaper and far better to go the new way, complete POLISHED STAINLESS STEEL wire wheels, they look absolutely fantastic, and NEVER rust again, and cleanup is much less work!

Idk if the plating it just coming off I wouldn't worry about it too much. I have changed the tires on my 88 and none of the wheels had rust anywhere, they were honestly cleanest on the inside, even having filled up at wet gas station compressors. Biggest issue I have had is with the sealant on the inside eventually coming off and letting the wheels leak badly.

I had my OEM lattice wheels chromed in California by California Chrome Wheel, Inc. Talked to David 661-294-0170 or email dkarasseferian@sbcglobal.net I paid shipping from WV and sent them FedEX in two boxes I made. (I sent 5) They did an absolutely fantastic job for $135 each including chrome valve stems (sleeves) then freight back in perfect boxes that well protected the wheels. Think it took about 3 weeks total from when I shipped. I then bought chrome lug nut.
