Default Rear Crankshaft Flywheel Sensor Part number

im looking to by both and front sensors, but have a hard time finding correct ones for my 92 mareli XJS

Front one seems to be DBC12507?
Rear one i see different ones
DBC12508, DBC11501.

im a bit confused since names a mixed up (flywheel sensor, crankshaft speed sensor, crankshaft speed/position sensor)
they all have different connectors, different length and different sensor angle.

Thanks

mouserider,

I'm not sure where you were looking on the Jaguar Parts website? It shows pretty clearly that it's DBC12507 for your 5.3 car.

Always start on the Jaguar website for the correct part number!

Cheers

It's all on the Jaguar website! Same part number for the rear on a 5.3, superseded from DAC 4606

im sorry but i cant figure out how to use the jaguar website to find this sensors, they have like 5 different part numbers, okey it seems like that both sensors are the same but have different boot angle, one is straight and another one is angled, if im correct then one is DBC12507 and another one is DBC12508

here is another thread with same question https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...sition-221641/

apparently one should cost twice more then the other, so i assume it cant be the same part number

mouserider,

The website seems pretty clear on the part number for the rear sensor on your 5.3 car. It doesn't quote 5 numbers. It details the original number DAC4606, superseded to DBC12507. See here:

Genuine Flywheel Covers-5.3 Litre (5.3 Litre) For Jaguar Xjs Sports Coupe/convertible 1975 - 1996 Classic | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts

Jaguar don't quote DAC12508 as the rear sensor for the 5.3. They detail that as the part number for the 6.0. see here:

Genuine Flywheel Covers-6.0 Litre (6.0 Litre) For Jaguar Xjs Sports Coupe/convertible 1975 - 1996 Classic | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts

It's why I don't trust any supplier site for part numbers other than Jaguar's own site. Whilst there may be interchangeability at times, there is also so much well-meaning, but incorrect information out there. I've only found one error on the Jaguar website in many years. Even then, you can contact them and they will correct it.

It's worth playing around with the Jaguar site until you understand where every part is detailed. Then you'll always be able to find the right part number.

Cheers

Paul

This is exactly what i meant, you saying that 12508 is for 6.0, but its not, here it is
same diagram https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic...el-sensor.html
showing DBC12508 as "Genuine OEM DBC12508 - Jaguar Flywheel sensor (DBC12508) part for Xj6 & Xj12 1987 - 1994 Classic, Xjs Sports Coupe/convertible 1975 - 1996 Classic. Authentic Jaguar Part."

and called flywheel sensor not Crankshaft speed sensor as per your link
thats what put me off guard.

But again i found the answer
https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/xj-s...-anyone/346232

DBC12507 is the CPS
DBC12508 is the flywheel sensor
Same part as far as I can tell, one is straight and the other
is angled.
and then mystery with those sensors continues
SNG Baratt lists straight boot white sensor under 12508!
https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#...%60DBC12508%60

MossMotors angled black
https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/sensor...-dbc12508.html
(again stating that it fits 5.3 V12) and Moss is no joke as well

You see my concerns was not groundless. =)

Someone in the future will get to this thread and will have less headache

That page doesn't say that it's specifically for the 5.3 XJS or for all XJSs, it just highlights that it's one of the parts that is applicable to a model somewhere within the 1975-1996 XJS range . That's why it's best to go specifically into the area for your specific car and see the appropriate area and part number as per my links to you. Then you see that it's specified for the 6.0, not the 5.3.

I do share your confusion though! IF DBC12508 is angled and DBC12507 is straight (as per its use as a crank sensor) and IF the flywheel sensor on a 5.3 ideally needs to be angled, then I wonder if Jaguar superseded the rear sensor for the 5.3 from DAC4606 to DBC12507, because the angled sensor had already been discontinued at that time. Maybe they felt that you could use the straight sensor and fit it acceptably at the rear of the engine? But now that DBC12507 is also discontinued anyway, the principle has less relevance.

I guess it's a personal choice. I always start with the Jaguar quoted number and then decide where to buy it. Every independent parts suppliers starts by taking their part numbers from Jaguar's parts system. If they then choose to change their description or get the numbers wrong, or transpose one to another, that's where the confusion happens.

Good luck with your eventual choice!

Paul
