Nope. Access is from the trunk left and right side. behind the two removable side panels. (At least on the 95 conv ). Put your hand low and near where you align the outside light an you'll feel the bulb holder.

the plastic lens got broken. i have to replace the light housing not just the bulb. i can see where the bulb socket is, not a problem. i'm assuming that the bumper cover needs to be removed in order to install the replacement unit but not sure. thats why i asked if the entire cover needed to be removed to do this replacement.

Ah..I apologize. I had only bulb access and replacement on the brain. I missed that you needed to replace the whole housing/fixture. I never did that and not sure if the bumper overlay needed to be removed for that. . Sorry I misunderstood.

You do not need to remove the bumper overlay cover. All the connections to affix the lense housing are inside the trunk. I have an entire set of (93-95) XJS used rear light housings. 2 on left, 2 on right. Dummy lenses next to license plate - I did not replace. I replaced all of these housing a year ago. Not difficult to do. Easy DIY.

After you disconnect the lamp holder it's a very tight fit to remove/replace the lens.
Be careful to not stress the clips that hold the lens to the body.
They break very easily so give yourself plenty of room between the body and the bumper cover.

Ok! Sounds good to me. Are there two parts to the rear light fixture? If so, post a photo of what it looks like. And I'll see what I have back in NYC once home.

Now I have to go create a post for an issue with my car. Jeeeeze Louise.

Speaking of fish bait! I'm on the Long Island Sound fishing for stripers with squid and ain't gett'n nuthin. Any advise? Sea worms, clams? Bunker? What say you?

i attached some pictures. the light housing snaps into the body behind the bumper cover. the red lens is part of the assembly.
i use to make jointed fish lures. i attached a picture of one. did this for a lot of years and finally burned out . i might start again if this stay at home crap continues!

Amazing lure... Thanks for sharing that...

About the light, I'm sorry, I misunderstood... I was thinking that it was the tail light you were looking for and needing to replace. I am sure I have a taillight. Don't know which side, but I don't have the smaller marker light. Sorry for the confusion.
