Is this a reasonable price for 87 H&E xjs
Hi. I can buy an 87 Xjs H&E convertible 22k original perfect leather interior, original green exterior paint, no knocking starts smooth handles tight. Horses and motorcycles are fsmiliar, new to jags. Like the long low lean look. Just for summers. Read some blogs, worried it might come up lame. Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum Kentuckythoroughbred, I've moved your post to the XJS tech section for a better response.
Don't forget to tell us a bit about yourself in the new members section.

Well the XJS is certainly a thoroughbred, not so sure about the H&E.
Like others I'm wondering if the 22k is the mileage or the price?
If it is the former, then what is the latter?
If it the latter, then I would say that it is probably insanely overpriced. But in the end a 'reasonable' price is what someone is willing to pay. YMMV

Everything working and no rust problems are vital. The H&E model was a nearly "one off" type of non-factory conversion, so there will be some non-standard bodywork things. In particular the fuel tanks are one-off fabrications (there are two linked by a system of pumps and pipes).
The engine and running gear are standard as are lots of the body outer panels, but not all. Finally, doing your own maintenace is a must unless you have more cash than most of us here!

If everything is actually as good as it sounds thus far....especially the cosmetics....I don't think $7000 is a bad price.
Most mechanical issues can be sorted fairly inexpensively....assuming DIY labor as Greg mentioned. Cosmetics, though.....paint, leather, chrome, wood....can run into many thousands of dollars.
Cheers

I agree with Doug, your description of the condition would indicate that the car is fairly priced.
I would definitely get the car up on a ramp and inspect the underside and also pull out the spare wheel and carpet to look at the fuel tanks condition and the frame around them. This is a known problem area of H&E cars.
Significant structural rust could mean very expensive repair bills. Caveat Emptor!!

This is just a guess, but we're probably talking about this car:

Glad I'm not the only one who hates the steering wheel... Haha. Up to $11,300 already! I think someone might overpay for this one..
