So, my home-made V12 ignition harness is coming along nicely!
With 150k km on them, I was planning on refurbing the injectors and cleaning them in an ultrasonic bath.
However..........the injectors must have moving parts, so in the interest of future-proofing the ignition system as much as possible, does it make sense to replace them rather than refurb?
I did come across a supposed upgrade:
I have refurbed and replaced. Replacing is expensive. I purchased a device that pulses the injector while you spray injector cleaner through them (you may already have one). It works reasonably well and you can quickly tell if the spray pattern is reasonably good and also easily discard poor performing or dead units. I believe I paid like 30 bucks for it on Amazon. You can also purchase a more elaborate testing unit for I think 400 that allows you to test multiple injectors, view the spray pattern and also determine whether the flow accross injectors is reasonably close. That seems like a bit of a hassle, but things might run better with closely flow matched injectors. The easy way is to just purchase a set of flow matched injectors (at least that is what they advertise) but again much easier.
P.S, I don't know about putting those in an ultrasonic bath, it may damage them.
And finally, the last set of injectors I bought, I only paid 400 bucks for 12. You need to shop around. I believe I found them on ebay.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply.
Yes, obvs cheaper and more expensive options possible. My research indicated cleaning in an ultrasonic bath is what is done when you buy refurbished injectors, so I think okay. Yes, I saw 'matched' refurbished injectors for sale. Could be gimmicky or genuine I guess depending on who is selling them. Will check out the spray test devices you mentioned- thanks!
I took a middle route and sent them out to be refurbished. It was basically the first thing I did on the car and didn't want to screw it up. If I were doing it again now? I'd probably do the same thing again.
