Default replace airconditioning coolant

My 1988 xjs v12 airco is not working. My mechanic told me it would need to bleed out the cooland and then preplace the old "nipples" with new ones for modern coolant. Any thought on how to do this? Thanks

Any competent shop can do the R12 to R134a conversion. The key is to get all of the old oil out of the system and compressor. The receiver/dryer will need to be changed, and it's usually a good idea to change the expansion valve also. The shop must also make sure that the new valves dont stick up too far and dent the hood. The Jaguar factory guide to the retrofit is here:

After spending quite a bit of time and work, we got the car in fabulous running condition. So the next challenge was the airco. We replace the gas nipples and found out there was 0 pressure, so there was nothing to bleed. We replace it with the new refrigerant and bingo, it works great! Nice and cool even with 100 degrees F or 38 C outside. I dont know how long it will last on r134A, but so far so good. Apparantly it can work on the new coolant type.
