Replacing ABS Accumulator with Febi
#1

So, as many others here, my ABS and Brake lights would come on intermittently when hitting the brakes. All new calipers, pads and rotors done last week. System was bled according the the methods discussed here on the forum. Braking was great, but still had the intermittent lights.
Next step: accumulator. The Jag part was a bit out of what I considered to be realistic (and I just bought 2 of the almost identical parts for my adjustable rear suspension for my S600 Mercedes).
So, I got another Febi. The part number was 01817. Got it from Europarts.com for $90.
The Febi is a bit larger in diameter than the Jag piece, but the real issue is the threads. The original Jag part has M14x1.5 threads where it screws into the pump. The Febi has M18x1.5 thread (regular threads, not tapered pipe threads).
I didn't even try to find an M14/M18 adapter, as the accumulator would not be able to fit in the stock position, being that it is longer than the stock piece, and the adapter would add another 3/4" to the overall length.
So, down to the hydraulic line shop. I sourced 2 metric to SAE stainless adapters. Each adapter had a male 3/8" fitting. I then had a hydraulic hose made that was 18" long that had female 3/8" fittings.
I have not decided on a final mounting for the new accumulator. For testing purposes, it's sitting behind and on the top of the ABS pump on a rubber pad.
Braking is fine (I tested it from 130mph today), and the dash lights don't come on.
Hope this helps anyone else looking for an affordable solution to what should be considered a service item.
