Replacing Convertible top Head Liner

Replacing Convertible top Head Liner
Hey all,
I'm enjoying buzzing around in my '89 XJS Convertible this year again, and heading to another province (PEI) for a car show this weekend, expecting to put on approx. 1000 kms.
My problem, I tried to remove a stain on the head liner with a foaming upholstry cleaner and a vacuum cleaner, and I obviously held the hose too close and sucked the top to the hose, traring the beige(tan) interior top liner.
Can it be bought, and how hard is it to replace? -From the inside, it does appear as if it is almost snapped/clipped in place.
-Any advice or direction would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Greg,
There are a number of companies that sell original material-type headliners.
I'm pretty sure the pre-facelift cars are the same as the facelift, in which case you have to cut out the old liner and stitch in the new one. A specialist good trimmer will have no problems doing it. Whilst the old one is out, check for the straps / cables that provide the tension on the top cover. They are prone to snapping.
Good luck
Paul

I recently replaced my Convertible Top from Tan to Black with:
Jaguar XJS Convertible Top Hood Black German 1989 1996 | eBay
the head liner:
Jaguar XJS Material Convertible Top Headliner Tan 1989 1996 | eBay
I had the work done professionally in Houston. They replaced cables and the blanket between the sonnenland canvas and the headliner.
My car has always been garaged with little over 30,200mi. I thought it was in excellent condition, however the blanket was totally rotted out. The upholsterer sewed me a new one. He told me it was better than anything Jaguar puts in their cars.
I was happy I never tackled this job. There is a great deal of skill to make it Perfect.
good luck fixing your headliner.

I replaced mine myself WITHOUT replacing the exterior top.
It was a real pain. The result for me was acceptable (my previous headliner was horrible) but if I was going to do it again, I would do both at the same time and get a pro to do it.
There was a very good post on this forum with a member who did both exterior top and headliner himself with lots and lots of pictures...... try searching for it
(found it, from Buddyluv) https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...acement-91725/
