Question Replacing rear gearbox seal - Getrad Manual Gearbox

Hey guys,
Any tips or tricks on how to replace the rear gearbox seal on the Getrad Manual Gearbox?? 85 XJ-S here.

The document refers to fig. 1 but I can only see fig. 2. Is there another part to the document?

Hi Duke,

Fig 1 attached - it is just the exhaust bracket.

I have never tackled anything on the gearbox. It sounds easy enough on paper but then again most things do! I imagine rusty bolts and access would be the biggest issue (unless you have access to a ramp). Not sure if the seal is an interference fit or if you could tease it out with a bit of wire. You may need a special tool?

I did some research on these gearboxes when I first bought the car. I seem to remember there was a specialist in the north of England somewhere but can't find the details now. I think manual BMWs of the same vintage used more or less the same gearbox so may be worth searching for BMW websites and forums.
