Request to split into 6 and 12 cylinder variants - POLL CLOSED

We've been asked to consider splitting XJS forum into separate 6 cylinder and 12 cylinder variants.
This was done with X300 (1995-1997) forum where the X305 (the V12 variant) has a separate forum. It was not done for XJ40 where 2.8, 3.2 (6 cylinder) and 6.0 (XJ81) all share the same forum.
The purpose of the poll is to gauge opinions of the XJS owning members but comments are also welcome in the thread.

I tend to look at the XJ40 section for engine stuff on my 4.0 XJS.
By splitting, you'd get the 3.6- and 4.0-engine threads out of the XJ-S section, if that's the desired result, but not necessarily be helping the sixes.
How about a total rework with new sections such as
-XJ-series all but powertrain
-XK sixes
-V12
-XJ-S/XJS all but powertrain
-AJ6
-AJ16
etc.
Or not.

If people are really having trouble with the AJ6/16 engines I’ve seen them be directed to the XJ40 and X300 forums for technical advice of the specifics of those engines. I’m much the same way that Series XJ12 owners post engine related problems in the XJ-S section. I don’t think there’s enough traffic to split the forum.

Though the engines may have different numbers of cylinders, they are still just engines, and designed by basically the same engineers so they have a lot in common. I've seen several of our V-12 experts here help owners of 6 cylinder cars diagnose and solve problems.
This particular XJS forum is the most helpful I've ever come across, so I tend to think a split might not work out as well as imagined.
Cheers

Having administered a number of Jaguar and other forums, I feel it would be a bad idea to split the XJS Forum.
A forum thrives based on popularity and involvement. The basic commonality of all XJS models is what holds the interest and participation of so many owners (and prospective owners) and makes the forum successful.
I'm not sure who may have initially suggested that it may be split but it feels that all owners may lose out. If 6-cylinder owners want a separate forum, they will lose the knowledge and expertise of V12 XJS owners to support questions on trim, body, suspension, lights etc etc. And if V12 owners want a separate forum, they will similarly lose the input from most facelift owners who own six-cylinder cars, when they are discussing something like a rear cage refurb.
XJSs are differentiated only by engine, age and body type. We're all part of the same family. Let's keep all the siblings together!

It just gets annoying at times when people assume everyone knows what car they have and won't include MAKE, MODEL, YEAR.
Might get confusing for new members to find the correct one in the beginning but?
I don't mind either way. (I tend to read the one's I'm interested in)

The reluctance to give vehicle specifics, AND where they call "home" is my pet annoyance.
I have been guilty of not responding to them sometimes.
Leave it alone, it works, like a wheel, it works, why re-invent it.
Now I feel better, thanks Graham & Co.

Leave as is... I've recently enjoyed exploring - and have even chimed in carefully - learning more about the different XJS models (6s) and learn lots by reading through folks post and offered solutions... Depending on the issue I have used 6 cars posts to do stuff on my car. It's all good as is.
As folks have noticed,,, for XJS owners who may not even be members of the forum,,, I post the year and make of my car in all titles of all of the forums I belong to for easier HITS on Google searches and so on. YES please included car information on all posts. Makes life so so much easier for everyone. Jus say'n.

I am a frequent user of X300 and X305. I first signed up for Jaguar Forums because I found the dedicated X305 section. BUT... I agree the 305 is a "very small community" compared to 300 and aside from the engine it is essentially the same car. I posted about suspension in 305 today but it is certainly relevant to the 300. Same thing would apply to splitting the X27 section.
As an owner of one, I like having a dedicated X305 section just for the engine. But I must agree it is not beneficial for the larger X300 ecosystem.
Jag Lovers combined X300, 305 and 308 XJ8 into one forum, which is too much intermixing for me. I disagree with that.

There'd probably be more sense in splitting between Pre-Facelift and Facelift. Which I don't think is a good idea anyway. Split between Lucas and Marelli? Between coupé and convertible? No, not needed.
I think there should be a section in the header of each post for Model and Year. We don't need to know how many likes someone's given, or received.

Model: XJS V12 --> Wot U Drive
Year: 1892 --> Facelift, HE, Coke Classic?
And make these required fields to fill in.
