2x4 and a hammer.

That worked, was the 2x4 bashed in to the gap and used as a lever?
Keep the info coming this is very good and I'm enjoying your journey....

One day I to will be doing this, and this info will be priceless.

Exactly. And because its would the wood gives before the metal. Need to make it go in about 6 inches. And then I put all my 200lbs into pushing down the wood and she popped off just as was near the floor. Thought the wood was gonna break but it held.

I'm gonna do a separate post with pictures once it's out with more details. It's a combo of like 4 posts I used as reference.

So where do I start haha. I'm gonna remove the shocks and then try to get the rest of it up on the work platform that u can kinda see behind it.

Then I will start cleaning and take it apart. The diff needs a rebuild. Its leaking I think.

Can you tell what diff I have? I read the help but I just want to be sure. My build date was march 1988 and I have ABS but still Lucas.

How did the motorcycle lift work?
Is that lift designed for 4 wheeler bikes?
Any chance we can get a photo of it?

Your car is the same as mine, 88 with ABS and Lucas.

It worked ok. But I would recommend this style. The handle gets in the way. I had to lower the cafe onto blocks then repositions the jacks a couple of times before I got to the spot where I could move it.

When I go to out the cage back I am gonna use a different lift. But I borrowed it and it did the job.

I might buy a proper lift anyways as I have a motorcycle

Also I should add it didnt go high enough so I lowered my jack first and it kinda tipped backwards about 3 inches before it rested in the motorcycle jack. Need a jack that goes up about 20 inches this one only goes up about 15.

If the diff has a drain plug underneath it is a GKN/Salisbury.

Wire brush, some air, degreaser, pressure washer, and more air equals looks a lot better and ready to disassemble.

Yep that's the plan. Not sure if I'll put different gears in the diff yet. Still debating. Repaint what I can as well. No fancy colors.

Way to go!

I said that it was easy!

And I think you've done it quicker than I did!

As getting those exhaust pipes off was a total PIA as we have the 'rust bug' to contend with and a bolt that holds the Trailing Arm Sheared off out of sight up in the cup

Replace the Rotors with Solid Discs instead of those Split ones and everything is easier if you take the cage off but that is up to you

Thanks. Your thread has been very great. It's a rainy day so a good day to start taking it apart.

I did end up cutting the exhaust behind the tail resonator as I could get the clamps off but not actually pipes from.one another. All original. That's fine though as my exhaust will exit in front of the rear wheels in the future.

I was reading your thread last nigh about using the copper pipe to hold the wasthese etc in the lower wishbones. How has that worked for you? They stick together for the most part with the string there?

Got the 4 rear shocks out. Lost.my first bolt today. Hopefully it was the last.


as she sits. Now. After I eat some lunch gonna try and put it up oitmy moveable bench.

Did you notice (and capture!) the steel bushings that fit into the upper eyelets of the shocks? item #6 in the illustration below:

Yep I did. Got them.

Got the cage up on my moveable bench. Little better to work on

Also I do have a drain plug in my diff.
