Offset ring spanners are useful in this application too. If you search ebay for imperial ring spanners ther are loads dirt cheap. I just bought a full set of top quality ones for about 10 quid, as good now as they were when made 70 years ago.

Hell my boss got a car lift out of a VW dealership that was moving for 500 bucks.

So while I wait for parts I decided to tackle the transmission filter.
I followed living with a classics video.
Man that transmission mount is time consuming. Especially when the exhaust can't come off. Lol luckily it was loose enough i could get a socket and extension onto those 2 smaller bolts.
Everything else went smoothly.
I'm gonna do the actually filter tomorrow at some point.
Oh and I'm glad I ordered a new transmission mount with my last order. There's not much left of it lol.
I also read but can't seem to find it about leaving something out or something like that to make it easier to do in the future? anyone know

I was thinking that since I have the pan off should I install a b&m shift improvement kit. #20260 is the part number.
It says its for 68 to 87 ish th400s. Would my 88 th400 still be the same?
I figure for a 100 bucks it would be worth it. Looks pretty straight forward and now seems like a good time to put it jn.

The collision bracket, the heavy piece to the left of your photo can be left out. This makes it much easier to drop the tranny pan.
I would install a B&M adjustable modulator before doing anything else. This enables you to adjust shift points very easily and without having to undo anything. I reckon you will find that does enough.

Today I didn't a little painting and cleaning of the tranny mount parts I've removed. Not much left of the original mount as u can see lol.
So my wife is gonna get me the 4 rear shocks for birthday/fathers day. She's like are you sure. Usually I get a tool and I could use a welder but I'd rather get the new shocks. Welder can wait til Xmas lol

Got a bunch of parts. Tranny bushings, the big bushings for the radius arms, the park brake and rear brake pads. Also the rear brake hose.
Also got a sensor for the wife's ford edge abs. Took 30 minutes to replace. No more lights on dash. Ya. Still need a front wheel bearing for that. Should be hear tomorrow.
Still waiting on that bolt from the UK though.

Keep the updates - really enjoy them.

Tomorrow I'm taking the radius arms to the shop to get the bushings taken out and new ones put in.
Grabbing a shift kit also. Then gonna spend the day cleaning up my mess I made and maybe ill get the kit installed. If not Friday. Taking my time as I haven't worked on a tranny before. And being in the car still is a little more time consuming.
Need to some petroleum jelly to hold stuff in place while i put it back together too.

Did you buy an aftermarket filter or Jag?
How hard to fit the shifter thing?
Have you read this thread on the shifter thing?
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lation-102565/
I to am interested.... but as long as it does not add stress to the poor old transmission?
But I do like the idea of the car holding gear a LOT longer, mine seem to change SO early it disappointing.
Some time you just want to floor it and have it hold the gear until I relax my foot, and then it changes?

The transmission the th400 etc have always been tough. They are still used today in muscle cars etc and can handle 450hp stock and its actually stronger than the 700r The v12 would fail before the tranny would.
As for fitting the kit I've never done ondoubt it really isn't that hard as long as you take your time and go step by step and not rush. Google th400 shift kit install on YouTube.
Installing while the tranny is in the car is a little more difficult and time consuming but if you can turn a wrench you can do it.

I ended up going with the transgo shift performance kit after speaking with some transmission people. Was about double the price at almost 200cdn but has more options to tailor what I want. Its a stage 1/2 kit.
Today I'm gonna spend time just cleaning and getting everything ready.
Also dropped the radius arms off to get the new pushings put in.
Pics will be at end of day.
Weather is so nice its hard to stay in the garage now lol. Need to work on my tan.
Also perfect riding weather
