Do all of that core stuff you mentioned above - and no, I would go pulling heads of a V12 unless driving for hours pointed at a need. I don't know much about mods...except the things most people delete to make for an easier life and a less cluttered engine bay.

To make life super easy just remove the entire top end of the engine and do a refresh. Removing intakes, rail, injectors, capstan and everything in the path of all that makes what ya need to do and what needs to happen all the more clear and accessable. Especially the coolant hoses... Well, makes everything clearer, honestly. Makes it much easier to reach and see many more areas around and under the sides of the engine as well. Shoot,,, mannnn - if I had a garage...

Ya hopefully I can get all the oil leaks solved. Also I'm not planning to remove the heads. I just hope once I get the car road legal legal I won't have bigger engine issues. But it doesn't seem to run well as is. I havent been near another xjs v12 to tell though lol

 

Me being lazy...do I have to drain the oil to remove the valve covers. Just don't feel like jacking up the car again lol

I was just pricing out to print a copy of the help. 130bucks for a copy with binding and a thicker than normal paper. Not bad if ya think about it lol.

Have to admit I've moved the jag a few times this weekend in and out of the garage and it feels good to fire it up and put it in gear and move it. So far everything I've done has come together. Now I get need to get the engine running mint and leak free. Guess we'll see by spring time.

 

Started attempting to take the front bumper off. I found a few threads on how to but they aren't clear. Some say remove the chrome before the bumper but it looks you dont need too.

I've taking the inner front fender access panels off, that plastic cover that goes across the center (6 bolts), and started to take the nuts off on passenger side that attach the bumper to the LF fender. That side is bent so thats why I went that side first.

Lots of rusted nuts. Probably replace all of them.

The inner fender parts are gonna need to fixed or replaced as well.

oh well little bit a day.

Looks like most nuts are 11mm ot 7/16th. Probably suppose to be 10mm but with the rust on them 11mm works lol.

The rom isn't very clear as well.

Looks like there are 2 big nuts, one on either side where the bumper piston or whatever its called is at, that need to come undone.

So any advice or let me know how the quickest way is to take it off. I'll take all the chrome off after I take the whole thing off.

 

If you have the collision dampers, they fit into long tubes in the chassis and are bolted at the front end to the bumper. You need to be able to get at parts 25, 26, 27 and 28 in this diagram:

"Just" a matter of getting under the front and seeing what you have to unbolt to get there!

I do have the tubes (which I am going to mod to suck in the bumper to make it more flush once im read to put it back on)

I've removed 6 x #19, which removes #18, and the 2 x #10 on the LF side. Also have disconnected the fog lights from the bumpers (need to do that to get a straight line to some of the #19s)

Why did jaguar make this bumper so complicated....oh wait I just answered my own question lol

 

After some banging, cursing, more banging, lots of pb blaster i got it off.

Yes every nut and bolt you can see has to come off. You cant get the 2 big bolts up through because the rubber cover, which is covered by the center chrome piece, block the bolt.

The chrome wings are attached still as I had to go start the bbq and cook some tasty steaks


Tomorrow is Remembrance Day in Canada so I will be pausing to remember the fallen brothers and sisters who gave the ultimate sacrifice and raising a glass.

Changed the rear brake rotors and pads on the qifes Ford today. Shes happy lol


So just trying to figure out which procedures to take things apart

I think this is right

disconnect battery
Drain coolant
Depressurize fuel system
Depressurize air condition system
then start removing things from the front to the back of engine
I will be removing the rad, air conditioning system, emission system, and everything down to the cam covers

Gonna be a long 6 months lol.

 

Got my last indoor list of things to do in the house. Also booked 3 weeks off at Xmas time so should gets lots of progress them.

Put a frame around my projector screen.

Hi All,

Hoe everyone is well. Its been a busy winter but the warm weather is about to start next week (that's above 0C to me lol)

I haven't done a thing since my last post. was deployed for a bit and then even in the heated garage the winter just doesn't make me want to do anything.

I still plan on doing engine maintenance, coolant system, fuel system, remove emissions stuff, and anything thats basically in the engine bay. After that will be the removal of the front suspension to recondition it.

I did find out I will be posted summer of 2022, don't know where yet, so I need to make sure the car is back together enough to be transportable. Hopefully I can have most of the work done by end of October.

Gonna move my motorcycle tomorrow and reposition the Jag into its summer resting place. I bought some ramps on sale last week to lift the front end up so I can give the front jack mounts a rest since they are the worst rusted spot on the car and I dont feel safe using them anymore. Hopefully it will start lol.

Expect a lot of questions coming soon lol.

Forgot to say I got an email from rockauto a few weeks ago about warehouse clearance items for the xjs. so ordered all this. was last in stock for most of it. lots of dust when it showed up lol.

 

Got my XJS moved. Sitting Since Nov, primed the pump 3 times, fired right up. didn't even struggle. Shifted right into gear. braked when I wanted it to. I must be doing something right.

So up on the new ramps so I don't have to bend over so far lol. I'll jack the rear up in a day or so to level it off.



Also with my 3 year back pay raise coming and tax return I've told the wife I'm grabbing one of these. I've never had a proper tool box ever and am always working on cars or something. I think I deserve it. Its Costco brand but its built by Torin.

I scored a similar toolbox August last year, and now all my tools are in the one place - so no more scratching my head wondering where I stored "that" tool. Has made a huge difference.
