Default Rims/wheels for the XJS

So, here we go, Flint. It's going to be a fun thread.

BTW, this doesn't necessarily have to be about what wheels you have on your kitty, but it can also include either pictures of an XJS that you have seen with those special wheels, or even wheels that you photoshop to an XJS, explaining where those wheels come from, or who sells them, in case somebody gets convinced...

Anyway, so here I'll start with my own. They came from an early XK8 that the local Jag dealer had just sold and whose new owner had brought in his own wheels, so these Revolvers became instantly for sale including the P-zeros already installed on them. The only adjustment was 1/4" spacer on the front wheels; nothing on the rear wheels.

Cheers,

Racing the XJS is still popular in the UK. One well known pilot is Gail Hill and she features on her XJS' the same XK8 Revolvers that I have on my own kitty, only that for racing chrome is just extra weight, so it's out of the question. But, Revolvers are not the only wheels she uses, as her other V12 has the same "Asteroid" rims that came with my XJR. Other drivers use these rims, too (car 48).

Cheers,

Boring ole me has Starfish Alloys. 15", correct for year and model. (I don't mind them though)

Tyre spec is 215/70 15 but so hard to find so use 235/60 15

I would like to upgrade to 16" lattice alloys though some day soon. Nicer look and easier to find tyres for the 16" I am told.

Pic was from a while ago (found it on my hard drive). Excuse the scuff mark and dirty rim. Got it cleaner now

Hey, Pauly, not boring. I like the Starfish wheels, always have. What you do like and I don't is the Lattice wheels; just too hard to clean and to keep clean. I also like most of traditional Jag wheels, such as the sculptured rims on the XJ6 series II, the Pepper Pot wheels and another one that escapes my mind right now. You know what most people forget, though, is to keep the tires perfectly clean (i.e black) because, even if the wheels are nice, they can't help dirty rubber. It makes a big difference.

Cheers,

Any hints on keeping those tyres clean? I wash my walls but they seem to look dirtyish once they dry again.

Out of the XJS rims I like the Starfish, Pepperpots and Lattice. I know alot of people are not so fond of the pepperpots. I have seen them also on an XJ6 series 3 and think they look cool.

Not a big fan of the Kents and the first of the facelift models I thought were a little boring. (No offence to anybody that has them)

Reinaldo I like yours from the XK8. Very nice mate.

Thank you, mate. Well, other than keeping them clean, do help them a little with something that darkens them, like Armoral or the likes. Not so much, as you don't want that silly shiny look, but just a little, just enough to keep them dark. The only thing is that, in my case it isn't fair because I don't drive the car, so the tires stay nice and black, like except today I took the Kitty to the local Redondo Pier Friday night car show, 8 miles round trip, not enough to get them dirty, but not much more drive, unless one of my other cars brakes down.

Cheers,

Ha ha well there in lies the problem. When I am home (I work at sea) I drive her for 4 weeks straight, almost every day!

But yeah might try the Amoral, that sounds like a good idea. Cheers

Default Pick one

Top = 17" Eagle Alloys (with very thick spacers)
Center = 16" wheels from a friends XJ6 (don't know what they're called)
Bottom = 15" Lattice

I purchased the car with the Eagles installed. I also have the original Lattice wheels and the 16" XJ6 wheels. Which one do you like?

Beautiful car. Of the three options, I prefer the lattice. My car has them with dust shields on the front wheels so no brake dust to clean off.

Of those three I like the Eagle Alloys best; they give the kitty a sportier stance. The 16" wheels in the center are from an X308; they were the original stock wheels that came with my -now gone- 1998 XJ8L.

Lattice wheels date back to pre-facelift cars by a few years and by the time they were last featured on the XJS ('93/'94) they were already 7 years old and beginning to look dated (just my personal view), especially against the more modern background of the facelift cars; however, they do match better with the '89, '90 pre-facelift cars. Then, Jaguar's replacement wheels for the 1995 MY (US), the five spoke alloys (can't remember what they're called) are an immense leap forward in style and really look in place on a facelift XJS. In fact, if it wasn't for the special deal with my Revolvers (explained on previous post here) I would've gone with the latter XJS wheels.

Cheers,

Nice Penta's, Peter; they give the kitty a nice sports touch. Also, the color looks great. Is that Kingfisher Blue?

Nice wheels guys, thanks for starting the thread! Will see if I can dig up pics of my first XJS - it had the XJ40 Vanden Plas wheels. Then the lattice. I would love a set of the starfish wheels in 17". A fellow on the 928 forum did a custom run of the phone dial wheels in modern sizes. Looks great!

This one resolves two issues. One would be new wheels and the other would resolve the problem with the front spoiler hitting the ground.
Win-win, huh.

My XJ-S wears some machined Lattice rims in 15" (I know, small but I think they compliment the car well):

Though I think a set of XJ6R rims in 17" would look neat too... I have a set I might just try
