Being as yours is a HE engine, the magnet is NOT needed.

The magnet rotor is for the earlier PreHE.

The magnet rotor is fine in the HE, as in it works just fine, but the NO magnet rotor is a NO NO for the PreHE, as the magnet is used to trigger the Injection system.

1982ish is on the change.

What you now have is correct.

I think you may find the magnet rotor, or at least some of them as it happened to me when I was sent the wrong rotor by error, will not fit into the HE Lucas dizzy. I temble to slightly disagree with the Great XJS Prophet of the Southern Cross, but the one I was sent did not fit onto the dizzy rotor and the magnet end seemed too big also.

MMMMMMM..

Maybe its teh :French Connection".

Cap is the same, although the original PreHE did not have the breather ports, and was Greenish in colour.

Distributor innards are the same, obviously the PreHE has the plastic wheel, and the HE the star wheel.

Mine has the PreHE base section, more mechanical advance by 2deg, and the Blue rotor simply slid on.

HOWEVER

Some suppliers do have really wrong, crappy, lousy copies of things, and claim all sorts of wonderful specs, so maybe you got one of them, dunno.

I have a Blue cap a loooong time back for mine, and the 3 screws were spaced about 2mm out, and the inner lip where it mates to the body simply was too small, it would not fit on, and the screws would not line up with the threads, even if I trimmed the inner fase to fit, no matter how much I drank, it woudl not fit, and it came from a TOP Aussie Jag Supplier at the time.

Thanks Gents.

After some back tracking i can say;

Wasnt me, my info input was correct.

lts heaver.

lt ''wants'' to fit, as in maybe 1/2 way, as a push fit, and im not going to try and force it the rest of the way. The old ones OK so that went back in, the cap ''looks'' OK so i put it aside as a spare.

Cheers
