Default Sad farewell :)

I have not posted recently as unfortunately my XJS suffered a disastrous engine fire and was totalled.
Very traumatic, bit thankfully no injuries.

I rescued the 5spd getrag transmission and was pondering putting it into another XJS. In the meantime I succumbed to buying an '87 Porsche 928. Fantastic car, lots of service history and well maintained. In the same GT tradition as the XJS, 5.0L V8; will miss the silky V12. Its interesting comparing the two cars, similar production years, but the 928 feels more modern.

Big thank you again to all those who have helped me on the forum. A finer bunch of people cannot be found!

All the best,

Quentin

Noooooo! Thats terrible. After all the effort put into it, what a shame. So sorry to hear this.

the 928 is a beauty. 1995 928 gts is one of my all
time favourites.

pics of Jag carnage? What do you have left, anything survive?

Hey Nick,
Salvaged wheels, tranny, steering wheel, trim parts etc. Initially hopeful it could be rebuilt, but economics not there.

Cheers,
Quentin

Sad about the Jag…. but those 928s are quite a car. Good choice!

Cheers

amazing. Where did you find it? 928 has been one of my favourites since i was 10 yrs old.

didn't you just change the fuel lines? What happened?

also, do you still have the old tremec bellhousing from previous set up?

Very sad indeed. Must be so frustrating after all the work you put in.

I feel for you.

Quentin,

So sorry to hear of the problem. Just glad that no-one was hurt.

It seems from the pic that the fire started somewhere in the V. I know that you'd changed the fuel hoses. Had you also changed the injector harness? I'm sure you don't want to dwell on the sad circumstances, but do you happen to know what it was that failed / caused it?

Good luck with your new acquisition! Nice car!

Cheers

Paul

Quentin,
A real tragedy after all your good work and frightening to see how much damage an engine bay fire can cause. At least you are in one piece and have found a worthy successor - get back in the saddle and enjoy it.
Cheers,
LeeP
