My car had sat for some years and when, after a bit of tinkering, I did get her started the first time, a HUGE amount of debris, rust, some water and gunk SHOT out of the plumbing and system having to do with the air pump. It all shot out of a metal tube at the back of the engine near the fire wall. I was very grateful that the steel tubing in the V, and the thin down pipes going into the intake at the area where the intakes bolt into the heads were all disconnected and removed or (I think) all of that gunk would have been pushed into the cylinders (if that's even how it functions?)...
I say all that to say, that if the air pump and all of its tubing has been disconnected for a long time you may want to be careful in reconnecting what you found disconnected and starting it up blowing a bunch O who knows what into the intakes...
Thing is, before I knew ANYTHING about the air blower/pump system (and I still don't know much) I ripped it all out. I could just be sounding false alarms.
Had the A bank air filter housing out to adjust the throttle linkage and noticed this.
What is this and is it safe to drive the car until this is fixed?
Right that’s is part of the air pump circuit. I just removed all of this stuff including the air Tubes and the pump itself. It’s a little work but cleans up the engine bay quite a bit. Plus it’s kind of useless. Only operates during initial warm up of the car.
