I don't drive an XJS to be cool, talked to or talked about. I drive it because it is in my opinion, one of the finest automobiles ever made. It gives me great pleasure, almost orgasmic, every time I start it. At my age, it's so nice to be in love again..

I doubt that any of us do. It's simply a pleasant byproduct

You do not have to dance with someone to know you do not fancy her or him, BB. It is not a rational matter, not one for comparison tests, any more than falling in love is. You have received truthful responses, maybe not your response - indeed why should it be? I have never fancied Mercs or Astons, no idea why. But when younger I fell head over heels for an Alvis TF21and ran it for years, I would not say it is a better car than a modern Merc, I do not want a modern Merc, yet I still fancy a TF21. Just a matter of what does it for you.

very god point, and eloquently made

but i for one like to try as much out as i can before passing judgement , if i have to judge at all , and never dismiss out of hand because something is or isn't popular

not arguing, just debating,

anyway , i haven't seen another XJS today apart from my own on the drive after coming home from work

That is my point BB, we are not passing judgement, we are saying what does it for us ! Even if I do not quite get as far as CKB !!

I think I might be guilty of looking cool and being talked about.

Guess I will just have to live with it! :icon_cr ackup:

Its not always about the money, or what something is worth an Aston is an Aston but the XJS is an Iconic Car.

Which gives me much more pleasure than anything that I have ever owned.

So hand on heart, I really would prefer an XJS to any other Car with maybe the exception of an 'e' type.

And that is more of a maybe than a really!

That's really touched my heart!

There is not a single time that I don't feel excited, every single time I turn the key!

Where every journey is a pulse racing adventure and no amount of money can buy that.

Whenever I take the Car Cover off, I just find myself saying 'Wow and Double Wow!'

I can't believe that this is really mine!

An Iconic 'Art Deco' Masterpiece of British Engineering that can one minute waft you along like a Cloud or Tear the Tarmac off a Two Lane blacktop.

On the Straight it can feel as if you've been shot from the deck of an Aircraft Carrier and as for going round Corners, the handling is not only Sublime but Surreal!

The way She goes round corners, never fails to amaze me, its like She's being swung around on a piece of string!

I've always dreamed of owning this Car and now my dream has come true!

if the Jaguar XJS was a truly extra special car it would be worth more money.

that said for some reasons that i will never understand, they can be had for little to nothing, both my XJ12Coupe and my XJS were given to me free of charge!
becuase they were going to the scrape yard! shame-shame!

also something hard to understand,i went to a car show in JAX FL , there were 7 XJS 5 convertibles,2 coupes and my roadster, they put me at the end of the row.

most of the true car guys walked past the standard perfect condition XJS, but stopped and asked many questions about my custom XJS , most wanted to hear it start and the exhuast 5" diameter 12cylinders, altho most dont quite GET IT!

If you feel the need to compare the XJS with other Cars, then maybe the XJS is really not for you.

To me its an incomparable Car, that has a Certain 'Je ne sais quoi' @ 'Greg in France' That other Cars don't have and never will.

Its not your fault you've got good taste but if that keeps you awake at night, I'm sure that help is available.

Well said Orangeblossom. I had family(now passed on) who's garage complimented several classics of various makes and models. There were three Countaches, one Maserati Ghibli ,one Merak, Mistral and the 3500 GT. I got to drive most all of them. I have been to Borgo San Lorenzo and my ears are still wringing from the whine of the Ferrari's and that was five years ago. Everybody's pallet is different when it comes to the classics. Give me a well maintained XJS over all of the above for our Canadian Highways, that includes most all US muscle cars. The E Type comes in a close second, but the ribbon goes to the XJS.

[QUOTE=ronbros;1073433]if the Jaguar XJS was a truly extra special car it would be worth more money.

If you go back to the 70's you would find people saying the very same thing about E types, TR6's and just about any muscle car from the 60's.

Do I think the XJS will ever be as coveted as say a E type or a XK150 for example, No I do not but let's look at the landscape of what you can buy if say you have $10,000 to spend on a classic car. Not too many classics are available at $ 10,000 or less and turn key at that.

I bought the XJS because the E types and all the other older Jag sports cars are out of reach now, but as the saying goes " a strange thing happened ", I really LUV my XJS'. I realized what a great value this car is that I went out and bought a second one so I did not feel like I would ever be separated from my XJS for even a month.

Simply put I figured it was cheaper to go buy another one at today's prices vs. worrying about having someone hit my first XJS and putting me out of commission. That is how much I LUV this car. Crazy but they just grow on you.

Would I love having a E type or Aston Martin in my garage, you bet I would but for the money to me the XJS cannot be beat and now I cannot imagine not having at least one XJS in the garage. Just have not come across anything for what I have into my XJS' that gives me every thing this classic gives back.

I live in Margate, Kent and drive to work near Maidstone and have seen three XJ-Ss in the past couple of weeks (although two of those were on recovery trucks ).

Roy,

I'm just outside Maidstone so my blue convertible might have been the third one as I've never been on the back of a recovery truck!
