Seatbelt Question

Seatbelt Question
So, I'm still looking for my XJS. Just haven't found the right one yet.
While my original thought was a convertible, I'm not opposed to a coupe. I am, however, opposed to passive seatbelts. Don't want them. Have experience with them on other cars, and while I won't go as far as to say they are the Spawn of Satan, they were at least designed with the influence of a minor demon.
Has anyone successfully "deleted" this style of seatbelt and replaced it with something more reasonable? If so, do you have photos/stories? This might broaden the pool of potential vehicles.
Thanks.

All because you Yanks refused to wear seatbelts........
They seem to only be fitted on US cars (could be wrong, but...). Folks say its because Americans refused in large numbers to wear any kind of seat belt so the answer was "passive belts". That's why the industry came up with those dam automatic belts and then later the airbag. Both passive devices as in the driver has to have them. ..
I would also go with a ragtop.

Or because government busybodies refused to just give Darwin a fair shake...
As far as the original question is concerned, the only solution I've heard of is that people disable them in the 'engaged' position, then just unbuckle them with each use.
That said, I can imagine that an earlier coupe without the "motor mouse" belts could be used to source the parts needed for a total conversion. For safety sake, the belts themselves should be sent out for re-webbing (search internet, there are a few companies who specialize in the service).
As a convertible owner, I would advocate that route for obvious reasons -- life is too short to coupe'd up.

While simply buying belts makes sense, The additional issue would be any valances/surrounds whatever you want to call them at the attachment points. Are changes required? Are they the same? Why even bother going overseas when you can just retrofit ones from '85 or so? The question becomes "what else is involved?"
I'll stick with the easy answer. Convertible it is!
