Both the front seats on my HE have started to fail along the seams leading from the pleats on the seat portion to the front corners. As im a ''patina'' type of guy lm going to try and resew them using the original holes as its not all stretched to buggery yet, (while im there i will do all the seams). l want to do the bottoms for a start, the uppers are good apart from some worn piping on the DS bolster.
Has anyone had the seats apart apart? Any tricks or tips would be appreciated,

Hog rings & pliers
Correct needles and twine
I did mine years ago, the same seat type as yours are. Remove the seat then if you look underneath you will see the edge clips holding the leather in place. Unclip these and the leather can be pulled clear. Madame did the sewing for me and back they went. I had an actual tear in the leather and that was sewn and has held since for years. Giving the leather a good feeding while off is worth it too.
If the diaphragm under the foam is shot, new ones can be found online occasionally, or Aldridge trimming in the UK can make them.
So thats what it is a diaphragm, i knew whatever's in the drivers side is knackered as the center has way too much give in it compared to the passenger side.
they are from a mid 90s BMW , forgot model, a large car!, 8000miles like new! at that time!
had to modify the mounts, as i remember not much work, JUST do it!

my seats were rotted out junk, much to expensive for what i needed!
SO , nice pair of BMW seats like NEW!
complete with good head rests !
ron very comfortable , and holds you in well!
I appreciate your car and the work you have put in to it, but how is this even remotely relevant to the OP who has explicitly stated that not only is he interested in originality, but patina and restoring his original pieces?? Do you really think he wants to throw in BMW seats into his original car? There are so many photographs of your car in every single topic in this forum that I think I know it better than my own at this point.

He did an amazing job on the car. He is proud of it. So, shows it off. why not...

Yes, I am aware. The photos are everywhere in this forum. This topic is about the OP seeking help to restore his seats. Not buy new ones, not put BMW seats in, but retain his original seats as he appreciates the patina. It’s just common courtesy not to derail every single topic and make it about you and your car. He could start a threat about his car. One about his interior one about his exterior, whatever. But constantly having to put focus on you and your car when it’s neither pertinent nor helpful seems selfish and self centered not to mention inconsiderate to the OP.
Spike, my Jag seats where the most uncumfortable seats i have ever sat in!
and YES i put many pix of it and anything else i deem pertinate to a subject!
a picture says a thousand words more than just words, words can lie,pix not so much!

***** PAY VERY CAREFUL ATTENTION *****
We don't have many rules on the forums because the vast majority of members communicate and interact both effectively and reasonably. Two fundamental principles are essential for this:
1. keep on topic
2. do not be offensive to other members
The thread has gone from the topic of repairing OE seats to an irrelevant modification and then an exchange of insults in record time. This stops NOW.
