Default Show your Engine Bay

I have been looking through the XJS site and some of the engine bays are simply stunning.
I would love to get mine like some of them one day, but more of an original look rather than a "pimp my ride" look.

Can I have a show of pictures of your engine bay please and a story about the process of getting it there.

Thanks.

Gee.

I'm afraid to clean my engine. Who knows what could be lurking there...?

In the garage, no one can hear you scream....

Found silicone spray works well for cleaning the grease off, lots of elbow grease, and attention to detail. Working custom covers for the filters which should round out the underhood look.

Thor, fuel rail is made from an old bathroom hand rail, i it was 6 ft long ,cut in half, milled the O-ring holes for top and bottom O-rings ( NO damn fuel hoses ,i run much higher FP than stock).

These look amazing!

From a novice, what's the advice on cleaning the engine and bay - do people rinse with a hose, but that feels like it'd be an electrical nightmare?

Gee.
Thanks, sorry, must have missed it.

I was just looking to see if there is any wisdom on things like (for example) wrapping up certain connections and so on before cleaning - the knowledge on this forum is incredible, and those sorts of hints can save you a right headache when you try something for the first time, so often worth asking. Will have a Google.

Here is the advice: NEVER use water in the engine bay of an XJS. If you must clean it, use brake cleaner, or white spirit, and do 10 square centimetres (2 square inches) at a time using a toothbrush.

Richard,

Follow Gregs recommendation PLEASE.

Way beck, before Google, yes I am that old, I simply washed all the Jag engines as needed.

The only one that got hissy was the MK X, that would have been 1975ish, but 3 days out in 44C Summer sun with the bonnet open, sorted that.

The V12's were all fine, BUT, and this is hindsight from me, I had done ALL the wiring/connector "catch up", so I knew there were NO suspect connectors to ruin the day.
I only used P/pack degreaser and the garden hose, NO Hi-pressure stuff ever.

The X300 onward NO WAY, even I am not that silly.

The current pair, get wiped down when I am in the mood, and that is rare these days.

ONCE AGAIN, follow what Greg said, and ensure the beer fridge is full, just in case.

I have to admit. I did use a degreaser and a hose on the front of the engine to wash all the filth off. The rest was painstakingly cleaned with brake cleaner, brushes, rags etc. It took ages but the results were well worth it. I did remove everything from the V.
Rob.
