I am looking to buy celebration model and during my search I noticed that the side stripes on cars have different positions. Some have these on upper part and some cars have them on lower parts on the side. And many don't have these at all... Does anybody knows why these are so different? Was this some option you could buy from the factory or was it dealer addition or these have been painted afterwards by owners?
It may have been different for the various markets. AFAIK, all UK Celebrations have pinstripes. At least I've never seen a UK Celebration without stripes. And they are hand-painted rather than tape. That makes me think that for UK cars they were all done at the factory.
I've also never seen any XJS with stripes placed high on the body as in that second pic! Is that common in the US?

In the US the Celebrations were delivered without a coachline. In the place where the coachline normally sits, protective strips were applied by many dealers and therefore for customers who wanted a coachline, it was placed higher.
But as you've shown, Pete, the US seems to have had single colour twin coachlines fitted (or available) from VIN 188700 (not sure of the significance of that VIN?)
As regards those coachlines fitted high up on that US car, it seems it would have needed a single long line on the front wings, rather than the Jaguar lines which split at the wheelarch, so I guess that was some after-market tape used for that purpose?

Tks for that Keesh. That's interesting. I've never seen any of those mid-height protective strips on a UK car.
Yes, you VERY occasionally see those lower rubbing strips on UK cars (a matter of personal taste, I might politely suggest!) and they do have Jaguar part numbers. I've never seen part numbers for the US ones at coachline height.

You see them a lot in the US but they weren't from Jaguar. I did a search once and came across another company that made them for the XJS. Company no longer exists. I wanted to replace mine because they are mounted with screws, so holes in sheet metal. Have now chosen for chrome adhesive stripes over the holes.
